Yeah, it's "like" having Rolf and Florian as your professor, if they had decided to metamorphose into Vangelis. I took this class ten years ago, before Mac OS X existed. Combine that little datum with the fact that Borden's approach was 'hands-off' to say the least, and you'll know everything about my experience. Switched On Blecch.

this guy is one of the pioneers of synthesizer music, which i didn't realize until years after taking music 120 and 220. when bob moog passed away, whose name appeared in affiliation with a memorial? you got it. it's like having ralf and florian teaching a class...except a lot more amusing. having a strong interest in synthesizer music helps you to pick up what he's teaching (i.e. don't skimp on lab time) - although when i took the course it was all midi, no digital audio.

I think eccentric is the right word to describe Prof. Borden... He's not doing the class again, but I'll say it was A LOT of work (many hours a week in the lab), but kind of rewarding... Definitely a *different* kind of class.

Terrible teacher. Does not explain anything and changes his mind on what assignments should entail. TA runs the class. Seems like a great guy but he has no business teaching this class half-assed like he does/did. Stay way from Music 120 as long as he is there.

As a prior student and TA for Music 120, I recommend being prepared for a unique, potentially rewarding experience. David is a great guy and capable prof, but you have to be on time, attentive, and ready to learn about non-intuitive, tricky MIDI stuff.
