Coombs was obviously enthused about what he was teaching; he was just completely and utterly inarticulate [and probably insane] to boot. He's retired now, and I'm ecstatic. Here's hoping that I never get another professor who relies so heavily on stream-of-consciousness bullet notes as a teaching tool.

I liked Coombs. He was always overly enthusiastic about what he taught, and that made the class more entertaining. The midterm was hard, but he stuck to what was in his class notes, so there were no surprises. If you do the textbook readings ahead of class like you should, you will have no problems passing.

Awful prof, hated every minute of his lectures...He would put notes on web ct but we never really covered everything on the notes and if we did he never went in the order...He got very excited and would skip to different topics..His midterm was hard to study for too, I used the book alot

Good teacher- I liked his classes. It was nice that he strayed from the notes he gave, it made the class interesting and worth going to instead of just a repetition of the notes. I'm sad that he's not teaching the whole bio course. The one thing I wasn't happy about was that his midterm questions were entirely from the textbook, not from his notes.

It's too bad Dr. Coombs is so absent minded and poor at translating what's in his head to something more than a dedicated fraction of a class can understand, because you can tell he's really into what he's teaching. He's just not good at teaching it.

Dr. Combs is by far one of my fvorite profs. He loves Biology and is very enthusiastic and loves what he teaches. He's very approachable if you need help and loves talking to students, if you do poorly in his class it's a fault of yours not his.

The reason the beginning is so hard is because he really doesn't like that part of the course (intro material). It's mutually boring for the students and him so if you can tough it out, just wait for the good part or 2nd half of the course. It's better since he loves this part of the syllabus and is overall happier when teaching that part

Dr. coombs isnt too bad. His midterms are taken from his in class lectures. Focus on his notes on webct His midterms also seem to get easier every time, exam was easier than the 2nd MDT and the 2nd MDT was easier than the 1st.Overall he has and affective way of teaching. read the text to get a good grasp of what he is talking about in class or else

I hated Coombs at first. I could never follow his lectures either. He is a funny guy, and he gets really into the subjects. His midterms aren't too bad if you study really hard. The final wasn't bad. Just read his notes, and the text, and you will fine. In the end, it's not that bad of a class.

Although he has a passion for biology, he can't teach to save his life. It's clear that his old mind has burnt out years ago. I don't know why he still bothers. A word of advice...NEVER go to class, just read the textbook like crazy and you'll have a good chance of getting a fairly good mark. Listening to him blab on just confuses you more.
