I'm already fluent in Spanish but I had to take his lower level class because they wouldn't let me into a higher level course. Turned out to be a good GPA booster for me, but you have to do the homework. He's good at explaining things and is always prepared. He's not very tech savvy because he's ancient but I can tell he truly loves his job.

Professor Dowdy is a great teacher. He class is fast paced but he has to go over certain things. He gives a lot of homework but only so you can really understand the chapters. If you need help go to him and he will work with you until you get it. Make sure you're able to learn at a fast pace.

Dowds is the best. He'll be like the hilarious, old Argentinian uncle you never had. There's a lot of homework but it is EASY and you don't turn it in for accuracy, just completion. Every class is going through the homework question by question which sounds boring, but Dowdy makes it fun. Tests are like the HW, just slightly different questions.

Dowdy is a great teacher, he has a fluent background but his accent is very understandable, making him the best option for intermediate speakers. He works hard to make you understand the concepts outside of the material in the book. Expect homework every night, usually 2 or 3 worksheets. He gives you study guides for tests. I LOVE DOWDY. He is the cutest old man I've ever seen and super nice too. I'm taking him 3 semester in a row now! The classes I have taken with him have a lot of homework but he's not a tough grader by any means. Most of the homework is participation. We really only work on grammar and vocab though so my impromptu speaking skills are lacking.

Dowdy is the first good Spanish teacher I've had since my freshman year. He has helped me catch up with what I didn't learn in previous classes and really encouraged my want to learn the language. He assigns homework every night but it's necessary practice so you can learn the material for the test (which everyone gets A's and B's on). He's great!

Dr. Dowdy is awesome! He really knows what he is talking about and how to explain it. He cares about his students and has a great sense of humor. As long as you do the homework you get points, and the tests are very similar to the homework. I am going to try to take as many of my Spanish classes with Dr. Dowdy as I can!

He is a very nice guy, and very smart when it comes to Spanish grammar. However, he often teaches very little and you have to teach yourself in order to do the homework. And regarding homework, he assigns a lot, and it feels not always profitable at times. His tests are straight from the homework though, and easy for the most part.

Out off all the spanish teachers I have had, Dr. Dowdy is definitely my favorite! I currently have gotten all As on the tests. He give you a study guide and you go over the homework before turning it in. I learned quickly and fast in his class. I recommend him and will be taking him for 312.

Great teacher! really liked him, he is open to explaining anything and everything as soon as you ask. if you have never taken a spanish class, it may be difficult, there were some concepts that are not easy to grasp. but HE is a great teacher!

I would not recommend him. Your class time consists of going over the homework that you had to learn by yourself. He decides to teach after you went through the lesson in the book on your own. I had to study about 5 hours for each test to scrape a B

I loved this professor! I learned so much in the class and he was such a nice guy! If you are coming into the class with no Spanish background though and you don't have much time to study then you probably should not take this class. Over half of my class dropped because he speaks Spanish the whole time, which was an issue for some people.

I have had Dowdy for two semesters now and I would not recommend him. The entire class is going over the assigned homework and he rarely teaches a new concept. He expects you to either know it already or teach yourself. I did not learn from him at all but if you want easy, his class is a breeze.

Overall, I really enjoyed Dr. Dowdy's class. He does not give notes he just speaks in Spanish, which helps with verbal comprehension and speaking skills. Teach yourself from the book and he will help you with anything in class the next class period.

Amazing teacher. Follows the book religiously, which makes the lessons and the homework very clear. Tests look exactly like the homework. He is very available to help when it is needed. In class, we just go over the homework but he keeps it exciting.

I would recommend Dr. Dowdy to others. He is fun, has a sense of humor, and is passionate about what he is teaching. I learned a lot from taking SPN 201 with him. Also, homework is assigned everyday but points are given based on completion. Most of the homework material you will have to learn at home on your own, but he helps you if you need it.
