Ive taken many classes from David, from Art 100 to 400s. He remains one of my favourite professors and is incredibly insightful. He has helped me hone my skills as an artist more than any other prof. He is also open to criticism and will support you disagreeing with him if you can defend your ideas and opinions. 100% recommend him. Favourite prof.

David was awesome! You absolutely need to show up to class though. If you follow exactly what he lines out for you in the assignments, you'll get great marks. He's sarcastic and passionate, so it makes the lectures interesting. Overall, take his class!

BE WARNED: When he says 30-40 hours of work outside class, he really means it. This class is a full time job. That being said, he's a fantastic prof with excellent advice for an intermediate painter. He lets you stretch your creativity even during a structured project. His feedback is excellent, and you'll really improve in this class if you try.

David was hilarious! The class was great and there was no textbook! however you needed to attend EVERY class or you would be lost the next day as he doesn't even post notes online. Overall he is a very great teacher and is very passionate about art. Would definitely recommend him.

He was an amazing teacher, and would reccoment taking his calass, no textbook or readings. Therefore if you skip class you will not pass. Even if you are not an "artys" person like myself it is an easy class to understand what is going on succeed, and have a great time. It was my favourite class. He is funny and keeps you engaged in a 3 hr class.

David is a tough grader and his classes can get boring. He is tough to get help from and very opinionated. When i asked for help on my midterm he told me he was not going to reteach the lecture and to look it up online.

Best professor I have had to this date. Very knowledgeable and helpful. I enjoyed going to his class because I grew as an artist. His assignments opened new doors for me.

David always talks about what students are doing well, but he's a hard marker. He did a lot of critiques, had us try many new drawing techniques, always explained assignments clearly, and as long as we put in good time and effort he was always delighted with everyone's work. Good class to take if you want to expand your basic skills.

David is a fantastic studio professor. His comments make you think, and he's very open minded towards chosen subject matter. He likes to see that you've done research on your topic, but he is very helpful in regards to critique. Highly recommended.

He definitely has very set ways, in the way he views art and the art world. But it was a very enlightening class and I learned a hell of a lot in it. In his intro to art class he definitely didn't hold back which I thought was refreshing and the way he interacts with the class is great too.

Garneau stubbornly maintains a very rigid definition of "good art." The man is so assured of the flawlessness of his own criteria for grading art that he refuses to listen to anything his students say. Any conversation with Garneau turns into a condescending oration. Good luck getting a word in edgewise.

Funny teacher. He is very smart and knows what he is talking about. He will gladly speak with you to clarify anything. The class itself is difficult but Garneau does his best to teach it. Don't skip, you can easily miss something that will be worth tons on the midterm and final. Doesn't post notes.

Did not buy the textbook and had no problems. He was nice enough to allow me to rewrite my art review because I did it incorrectly. Very helpful when it came to the midterm and the final with very clear outlines. Sorry to say, I am still not an art fan.

I know people who dropped this class immediately because they found David "arrogant." David is incredibly intelligent, very well versed in the art world, and really funny. I ended up with a 97 on the term paper and an 80 in the overall class just by listening to what he said in class. I really reccomend his Art 100 class!

Learned a lot from this prof. I loved going to the lectures, he was really funny and made class interesting. You'll never see him wear anything other than black. Found my $200 textbook completely useless though. Final and midterm were a lot harder than expected! Group work and review are easy. Recommended! You will learn a lot from him.

The only reason I took this class was so I could take sculpting next semester, but I found he had many interesting things to say. People who have a problem with his humor need to remove a certain stick from somewhere. Didn't really look forward to the lectures, but that may be because they were on T and R. Good class, I just wasn't interested

In his first classes the art that was talked about wasn't what I was looking for, but with each class I found myself coming back, eager to learn more from him. He engages his students in the class discussions, and makes us really think about what we learn. Really enjoyed his energy and enthusiasm, would be happy to take another of his classes!

David Garneau demonstrated an amiable knowledge for his subject, and a passion for art that makes listening to him and learning from him a pleasure. He is abnormally thorough when explaining expectations for assignments, and exceptionally fair with tests, giving the entire class the questions of each test beforehand. A+, Garneau.

I loved this class so much. People who think he is critical and opinionated have never been to a real art school. He is honest and intelligent, and offers constructive criticism. If you are easily offended you may find him harsh, but nothing he says is unjustified. Learned A TON from him!
