Prof. Jarraway is an amazing, engaging, hilarious professor! He is very caring, and truly wants all of his students to succeed. I took a couple of classes with him, but the 4th-year seminar in particular was AMAZING. He gets to know his students, and provides very useful feedback. If you do the readings and show up and try, you will do well.

He's super kind, I had to approach him about an issue with another student and he went out of his way to make things easier for me. Very progressive and centred around gender/sexuality. Extremely passionate about the content, so take this class if you're willing to be the same way and you'll do great

I was just taking this class as an elective because it fit a gap in my schedule, but it ended up inspiring me to add a minor in English. Great lectures and if you take the time to go to his office hours he'll give you so much useful help on the final assignment. Would definitely recommend taking any class with him!

Taught me grade 12 English at Lakeview in 1980-81. Never enjoyed a class more than his. What a great teacher! Count yourself lucky to be in his class. -John Payetta

The best professor I've had to date! He's an extremely kind, intelligent, and charismatic individual. I took his film class and although it was on Friday nights I still loved going! He gives excellent slides in class, which were great for writing the required essays and take-home exam. I would take his class 100 times! Movies he chose were amazing!

I don't care who you are or what your major is, take Jarraway's Film and Literature class. Honestly the best class I've ever taken and he is a phenomenal professor. The films you watch are incredible. He is quite a character but that is what makes him so great! Would take this class again and again.

Awful.OBSESSED with pragmatist/modernist ideas. SUPER boring. Reads off his slides. Had to read Kate Bornstein's essays on tranny and sadomasochism in an AMERICAN POETRY in the 19th century class!! Waste of time, effort, and money. He reads off slides and doesn't post them online. made us buy 10 books...

Funny, interesting and very knowledgeable. Really wants to make sure his students understand/are engaged with the material. Expensive class. Repeating key points from lectures in essays = A papers

Very Strange Individual. Keep your distance when speaking to him one on one or during his office hours as he tends to get too touchy-touchy. Very vague and boring lectures. Reiterate what he says in class and you will do fine.

Bizarre. But in a good way. He is prone to sing in class, or, as another reviewer mentioned, bust out a rap. Lit and Film was interesting with him. Lots of group work involved. Pretty easy marker. Good choice of movies and books. Nice guy, smart prof.

This professor is one of the wackiest ones you will ever encounter. His classes are pretty boring despite his obvious passion towards whatever he teaches, however, he is extremely easy going and very reasonable to deal with. He also enjoys singing (and in one instance, rapping) and over-emphasizing words for no apparent reason. Be afraid!

Jarraway was the best English Prof at the University of Ottawa. He completely opened my eyes to a new way of thinking. Students seem to either get his style, or not. If you are willing to try something new and challenge yourself to do some REAL intellectual thinking, Jarraway is the prof to have. Not easy, but well worth the challenge!

Don't believe the hype. Worst prof ever. Forces you to buy books you won't cover and repeats the same words over and over. Only plus: feed him the same words back on your essays and you'll do fine. The problem is how to stomach a full year of his bull

Fun course to have. He is very clear about what the assignments are about. In class hilight the essays (you don't really need to read them, just hilight what he reads out in class). The TA is a bit of a Nazi when marking tho. Group projects in this course were easy assignments but some members are difficult to organize meetings with.

What a bunch of crap. He is so ambiguous! WHat he says is so stupid. He sings...BEWARE...he won't stop. HE is everywhere and cannot let go of the open subject, closed subject, and modern ideas. Everything that comes out of his mouth is crap. It's his ideas or your WRONG. Never have this prof.

Good prof. Easy course. Needs a new TA who remembers that this isn't a mandatory class for ANY degree and to ease off on the heavy marking! Other than that...pay attention and hilite the quotes he gives you and you'll do fine!
