Comment:
He is very soft spoken so you can barely hear him, nice guy but really does not put all of what he expects you do to, can't study for his tests because you really don't know what will be on there. You have to go to class he likes to give class work that you'll be marked for and if you're not there you miss it. Be prepared for lots of videos.

Comment:
Dr. Lynes is the dryest, most boring lecturer I have ever had. Though classical social theory is a dry subject, it does not help to have Dr. Lynes muscle through it in a monotone voice. His assignments are also incredibly structured which I found odd for a 300 level class. Like high school kind of assignment sheets. Avoid if possible.

Dr. Lynes is scores high in every aspect as a prof. He's clear on grading schema, provides helpful & genuine feedback, is humorous in class & approachable, and CARES about student success. Highly encourages critical thinking in the classroom & course work. He's very enthusiastic about sociological theory!! Paper midterm. Final exam is a take home

Worst prof I have ever had. Very boring, unprepared often, and doesn't respect deadlines for mark submissions. I found him condescending upon approaching, and found he didn't really know the material well enough to teach. Marking scheme doesn't seem to make sense either. However, fairly easy course material, I just would pick another prof.

Lynes was a good prof, but it is easy to zone out in his class. On the plus side though we did watch a surprising amount of documentaries and movies. Pay attention, take good notes, and send him an email if you have any questions. Also participation goes a long way especially if no one else in your class is participating.

Dr. David Lynes is an exceptional prof. He is very passionate about teaching and you can't help but like him! He is a very fair marker and he's well organized. All he asks is for the respect of his students & he gets it through this kindness and sophisticated way about him. I've had him for several courses and I'd definitely recommend him!!

Dr. Rachel Hurst is a very kind professor and is usually available for additional help. However, she is a hard professor. Sometimes I wonder if she realizes that student's who have a full course load have 4 other classes aside from hers. She gives ENDLESS assignments and there is ALWAYS something to do for her class. She is a fairly hard marker.

A very experienced caring prof who cares about his students and understands our busy schedules. Gives readings, but does so well in advance so that students can plan to fit it in around other classes. He is very well spoken and carries him self very professionally in the classroom. He may seem dull to some, but if you do the readings he wont be.

He repeats what he says which is great because if you miss something you hear it again. He can be a bit dull, but he is still a good prof. He calls you out if you use your phone. He's really helpful. Plus, I find him as an easy marker.

Dr. Lynes is one of my favorite profs here at X. He really cares about his students and is really helpful. Can be dull, but he recognizes that and makes up for it in his jokes. GREAT marker too!

I took Intro, Deviance, Classical Social Theory and Soc of the First ppl from Lynes. He motivated me and made me feel smart, which allowed me to contribute more in class and do better overall. some people think he's boring but if you pay attention in class/do work outside of class you'll do well. Super nice and understanding.

I've taken a couple courses with Dr. Lynes, and have nothing but good things to say--he's fairly easy, but you'll still learn a lot as long as you do the work, he's very approachable outside of class if you need help, and he's a genuinely nice guy. It's just too bad he's not doing much teaching this year.

He is a hard marker and it is difficult to figure out what material will be on the tests. You have to get to know him to grow on him, at first i didnt like the class at all but now i am thinking of taking another next year. Very helpful with course advising and he will love you if you take more Soc. P.S Laugh at his jokes, the eclass will be better
