He is a great teacher, musician, and person. The thing I like about him is that, if you put effort into what you are learning, then he reciprocates in his teaching. If you want to learn it is amazing what you can get out of your time with him. He is an extremely chill guy and can play like a BAMF. I am extremely lucky to study with him.

He is so unpredictable. One day he'll bring in Phil Collins to listen to, and another day some world music you've never heard of. The best class I've taken at JMU (though be prepared to work hard on transcriptions), LONG LIVE THE POPE!

Pope is an outstanding sax player, knows his jazz history insanely well and knows his theory to the T. He also loves to listen to himself talk and sing... gets really annoying after a while. He rarely uses concrete descriptions of what he wants you to do, instead he talks about another musician or sings half the song for you...
