Comment:
Rivera is a great guy but sort of an awful teacher. His biggest problem is scheduling. He doesn't tell students far enough in advance about assessments, and is not super helpful in terms of planning them out. I really wish he'd spread out his assessments rather than give his students three assessments (one of which is a 20-page paper) within 2 week

Comment:
Professor Rivera is very kind and knows his stuff. Nevertheless, his class is exceedingly frustrating. His lectures are good, but the grading for the class consists of a midterm, optional essay, and final with HEAVY emphasis on the final. Easy midterm, but the final left me in tears because it contained nothing covered in class or the study guide.

I took a class with him at Brigham Young University, where he taught as a visiting professor. I really liked his class. He is clear, fun, and the readings are amazing. His class didn't seem very challenging though; just go to classes, take notes, memorize them, and you will get an A.

As stated, this guy knows his stuff, especially about Russia, whcih is the most of what you will learn. Grading is rediculous: 1 midterm, 1 optinal essay, 1 final exam. If you mess up on the m/c, you are done..

I really disliked Rivera. He was vague in his assignments and his tests were ridiculously hard. I remember I got a 78 on his midterm and ended up with an A due to the curve. He's a horrible professor and you won't do well in his class

He was dull and monotone and it was hard to stay awake in his lectures, though the visuals were cool. Worst grader ever. Only professor in history to have a 24 point curve. His exams cover material he says wont be on the exam, his paper topics are vague, as are his comments

He is a great guy. The class is simple. Take notes, go to class, and write solid papers=good grade. Really tough to get an A, but not to bad to do pretty good. He's tests are like random things to see if you know everything. But the curve was huge. He is a great guy. The man.

Lectures can be boring and the workload seems unbearable; however, if you go to class, stay awake and take good notes you can get a good grade. tests have a huge curve and you need to know your notes and just the main ideas of various theorists inthe class...midterm grades were either a's or c's
