Great professor. Gives a lot of information. You MUST read the book, pay attention and study the notes. The test questions are hard. He gives a fair amount of extra credit. He takes roll and your attendance can affect your grade meaning that he sometimes gives points for being there. DO NOT fall asleep in class. He is very fair.

People told me he would be hard but no, he was awesome!!! I made over a 100 on every exam and caught onto all the material quickly! All you have to do is be able to apply what he's taught you for the test. He gave us review sessions so if someone failed it was their own fault! Just make sure to read the book because he does use it for the test.

Dr. Tonkyn was a great professor Biology in the News. The class isn't tough if you just put an effort and he's very relaxed about due dates and things like that. He also provides really helpful feedback on your papers which will help you write scientific papers. I enjoyed the class, he always keeps discussions on topic and interesting

Interesting class. If you want to be successful in the course, you have to READ the assigned chapters for the test. Also pay attention to the lectures too, test questions come from directly from him and the book.

Dr.Tonkyn is a great guy who wants his students to succeed if he can see they are trying. This class was interesting but his tests can be tricky. This is a class where you MUST attend every lecture and read the text, he pulls test questions from both. He dose curve exams and offer extra credit which helps a lot.

I really liked this class. It was very interesting and Dr. Tonkyn made the material relevant to a lot of other subjects and to current events. His test questions can be somewhat random but he always gives extra credit and curves. This is one of those classes where you HAVE to go to lecture to do well on the exams. He really wants to help students.

This class is incredibly boring. His tests have random impossible questions. You must read the book and pay attention to little things that he says in class, because those will become questions on the test. I did not like this class at all, and do not recommend him at all.

Great teacher! Held review sessions for every test and the exam. Had PowerPoint handouts printed before lecture. Lots of experience and knows many influential people in his field. Plus, lab is awesome.

DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is the worst teacher I have ever had even through high school. His tests have nothing to do with his lectures, and his lectures are just mindless pictures about where he has been. Pretty cool places hes gone, BUT NO ONE CARES IF HE DOESN'T TEACH WHAT IS GOING TO BE ON HIS TEST. Doesn't help at all, useless for questions. F----!!

Worst teacher at clemson by far. He is not interested in helping his students in any way shape or form. Most unorganized class ever. You have to go to class to do well on the tests. Takes him up to a month to return test grades. WILL NOT return emails until at least 3 weeks later. Will not discuss grades. Miserable teacher. Smart but terrib

Tonkyn is a fascinating guy who has travelled all over the world. It gives him an interesting perspective from which to teach ecology. He's also very helpful. His tests aren't easy, but when was the last time you had an easy test in any BioSci course?
