Tests are really hard and you must use the same terms and explanation as what is in his head or lose credit. Lots of assignments to do, mostly its really busy work. Regardless of how much time you put in just know he will always have some kind of critique of your work or take off points

Loved this class. The material was so interesting. Dr. Usher really knows what he is talking about and is a good professor. This class IS a lot of work, but you really learn and retain so much. Three exams, weekly quizzes, two presentations, individual and group paper, and some other smaller assignments (critiques, etc). I would recommend it.

An awful lot of work for a 400 level class. Definitely favors his 600 level students (get grades sooner, more grade boosting chances). Inconsistent expectations on level of detail required for answers. Forced group work on a paper and one question per exam. Wish he were less anal about grading, the material is really interesting.

Amazing professor. It requires a large amount of work, but it is completely worth it. You spend a lot of time learning the material for the exam and feel like you will never remember it, but at the end of the semester you are amazed at how much you have retained. Have dedication, do the work and it's an easy B or A.

Well, you really have to go to class and work your ass off. Especially 671, 471H. Honors class is a bit better, since they have one less presentation. It is extremely helpful, if you had physiology, genetic, and cell physiology. It is pretty much "learning by yourself" class, but it worths it.

loved this class. lots of work, the vaccine paper was kind of pointless, but it all helps your grade if you do a good job. let me stress LOTS OF WORK for 671/471H (same class). but you learn a lot. and tests are fair, you just have to study very hard, read over his lecture summaries and take good notes.. go to class (duh). very helpful, too.

Tests are extremely hard and require knowledge of the most minute details ever, but they are doable. He is an excellent lecturer and offers opportunities to bring grades up through two group projects (but make sure you have a good group!) Class is demanding and worthwhile, you will learn a ton and become a hypochonriac at the same time!

Tests are VERY dificult, however, papers, quizes, and class participation help your grade out a bunch. If you really want to learn something worth-while instead of plain ole BIO take his class. Good guy, sticular for details though.

essentially the same class as 471; just an extra discussion session. terrific lecturer and a really excellent class; probably one of the most worthwhile classes in the department. May turn you into a raging hypochondriac

Wonderful class, highly recommended. Allowed to drop one test grade, weekly on-line quizzes, two group papers, and two individual papers. You will learn a lot in this class. This class is very time-consuming, so plan your semester accordingly.

Hard class, good professor. Tests just contain too much material and require too much detail.

Loves PBL's. Tests are not well designed; you must answer using the words in his head instead of yours; phrasing the same idea a new way will lose you points. Regardless of your grade though, you will have learned quite a lot.
