Maybe it's just that I'm not the math type but the practice tests he gives out are nothing like the test you'll take with him. The structure as far as multiple choice, essay, and graphical order will be the same, but not the material!

Had my first year seminar with Vail on Maine's Northern Forest. Interesting material but not a super engaging teacher. A good guy, though, and a veritable celebrity when it comes to the Economics of Maine.

Only Vail can lecture for an entire hour without repeating himself, stuttering, or pausing. There was very little written work, only reading, and in a math oriented course, that makes the tests difficult. Nevertheless I will attempt to take every class this man teaches.

Sort of boring. I had a B+ until the final, so WATCH OUT. make sure you take note of the little things because the final was almost like trivia rather than big ideas. The other tests were all fine. Class is dry. You cover WAY more material than the other classes. so if you're just filling a requirment, take a different section.

A little dry, but very clear and articulate. If you're already interested and want a clear introduction to economics, take this professor. If you aren't very interested, you'll be bored.

Very clear teaching style. Always helpful during office hours. Frequently available to answer questions. Keep up with the reading if you're in one of his classes, it will make the class much easier.

His economic development class was my favorite class in my 4 years. Super interesting class based around discussions, debates and role-playing situations. Sparked a life-long interest in international development. A challenging professor but worth taking!

Nice guy, but lectures are incredibly boring. Tests are impossible unless you're an econ genius.

The material is presented in such a random mess, though I suppose the class would be okay if you completed the homework assignments. *sigh* He's a nice guy and would probably try to answer questions during office hours...
