Sometimes gets off topic while lecturing. He uses students mostly in the front as concept demonstrations which is good class engagement but not if you're shy or have anxiety issues. Tests and quizzes are based heavily on reading look at the study questions and go over important points in the book. Midterms are more note-based.

Not a bad dude, nobody really hates him. He assigns more reading than possible to complete, and acts like it's no big deal. None of the readings or assignments have to do with each other. Wouldn't take his class again, but I'm not leaving the semester with him on my bad side.

I love history, great teacher. It is an amazing class, Woolner has great stories, although he sometimes focuses on the less interesting topics of the subject. A lot of the time he goes back and repeats previous things that were taught in previous lessons.

I love history in general, but this class had me snoozing at times. It's interesting to hear about the famous people he met though. Woolner has favorites; he zones in on them in class and acts like the entire rest of the class does not exist. Woolner also will say one things on the tests and put something totally different instead. Read everything!

Professor Woolner is very knowledgeable about the content he teaches, but his teaching method is cut and dry and is not very exciting. His classes are sometimes canceled and he usually lets students out very early. Quizzes are not even based on real history but stories about historical figures. Nice guy but not the best teacher.

He comes into class and writes illegible terms on the board and then talks (mumbles) for the rest of the class. There are around five quizzes, a midterm, final and paper. The midterm and final are based on the illegible terms that no one could read, but he clearly explains the layout of tests. Reading is essential to pass quizzes, VERY specific.

Great class if you have an interest in the subject. Sometimes he randomly doesn't show up and doesn't give notice. Very bad at returning assignments. A lot of reading, but the material is very interesting. OK grader.

Class was incredibly hard,No graded assignments so you overall is all quizzes and the midterm and final. Quizzes are all on material in the book, but the material discussed in class is irrelevant. If you don't read you will fail. Consists of 200+ pages of reading a week. Stay out if possible.

Woolner is the type of academic you'd expect to find at a big name University. His classes were insightful, thought-provoking, and interesting. Can get dry, but his incredible life stories keep the class moving. It's true that he's bad with grading and scheduling, but if you actually want to sit through an interesting class, Woolner is the one.

Woolner is by far my most interesting professor ever. His wealth of knowledge of litterally everything can be a lot to take in. For a freshmen taking their first history class this can be a little daunting. Typically classes will include lectures that don't have a lot to do with the textbook, but rather background knowledge on the textbook.

Dr. Woolner is perfect for a freshmen non-history major. Only gives two papers, a book report and a final. No other tests or quizzes along the way. Most students in a class earn a B+ or higher. Woolner is one's best hope for earning a A. Also,freshmen/soph/jun/seniors should take his American Diplomatic History. - least stressful 300 level course.

He missed a few classes randomly without telling us. The class is extremely dry and there are barely any graded assignments. We had three quizzes and he will not help you if you need it. The midterm consisted on two questions. For his quizzes, know the people from the book. Overall, I hated the class.

He missed 2 or 3 classes and I don't know why, but I paid for those classes, so that upset me. He also does NOT actually grade anything apparently. I tried pretty hard and all I ever got were B's. I even saw him during office hours about a paper and still got a B. So did everyone else in the class.

He is a awesome historian, but a pretty bad professor. Does not hand stuff back, has no concrete syllabus to fall on, no clue where grades come from, and allowed another student to view the final project before the semester even started.

If you like history, take him. If not, you may find him a little dry. He def knows his stuff, just make sure you read/skim the readings and i promise you'll be fine. He's not that difficult, but he doesn't give back assignments in a timely fashion.

dont be fooled, you do not want to take this teacher. he didnt give out mid term grades and it was impossible to know your grade becasue he never handed anything back. it didnt seem like he cared about teaching at all. his class was dry and boring and no one paid attention to him. i would not recommend taking him

Not as great as some would have you believe. A very smart man in his field, that's not being questioned, but sometimes I questioned his dedication to teaching. Missed several classes and his grading system is difficult to get a grasp on, if there's a system at all.
