Dean is a nice guy and a great prof. The class is very lecture based, so if you have trouble showing up to class every day you will probably not do well. Homework comes straight from the lecture material and so do the exams. Going to his office hours for help is almost required if you want to get an A. He is very helpful and wants you to succeed.

Absolutely the best eco prof I've taken. He's smart, very nice, helpful, and clear. He cares about everyone getting the material and is willing to go over things until it is clear, great guy!

Best Eco/finance professor on campus, my class was full of lazy idiots that didn't go to class and the curve he gave was generous. I actually learned a ton since he is clear, thorough and very knowledgeable in his lectures. He's very smart but relatable, caring and seems cool as opposed to most Eco Professors. I definitely recommend taking him!

Professor Showalter's lectures are amazing, clear and relevant. Just Attend his classes and follow videos that he posts ! He gives lengthy homeworks but if you do it nicely , you are set for the finals.

Solid professor. Lectures can drag a little and his handwriting is a little hard to understand. If you come to class and try on the hw you'll make an A. Textbook and tophat is used.

Requires you to purchase TopHat in addition to the already expensive book and MyEconLab access just so he can take attendance. He teaches well enough, but moves too quickly through material and his handwriting is borderline illegible. Definitely buy the book, preferably physical copy, because it will do a way better job than him of teaching you.

Mr. Showalter is fantastic. He's lectures are engaging, funny and informative. He's more than happy to take questions, work with you or clarify. The class itself is pretty difficult, but if you work with him he's more likely to work with you. He doesn't post slides and the in class info is detrimental so be prepared not to skip. I'd take him again!

Comment:
Not a good professor. The homework is ridiculous because the examples he uses in class are way easier than the homework problems. This is meant to be a leveling class, and I think it was way too much all at once, especially with the resources that are given to the students. I feel like I wasted a lot of money on this class.

After looking forward to this class, I left completely frustrated. The professor appears lazy using pre-recorded lectures to teach core concepts instead of actually teaching in class. There is a heavy reliance on the doc cam, which is close to worthless, as his writing is abbreviated and extremely hard to read.

Professor Showalter is awesome! Go visit him in office hours because he is extremely helpful. I was not interested in economics at all and planned on getting a B since it was a difficult class. I went to visit him in his office hours and he helped SO much I ended up with an A. Lectures are relevant and keep you interested.

He has been by far the most informative and well spoken professor I've had in 3 years. I would take every class that he teaches if you have the opportunity. He explains things in a clear and concise manner and is very intelligent. If he doesn't know something, he'll be the first to say it and will always help you out. Very entertaining lectures.

This teacher's awesome. I took him for a summer class and everything was pretty fast-paced (obviously since it's a summer class), but he goes over everything extremely well and makes it relatable so you don't have to ask why you're taking the class. The class was hard, but I never used the book and just showed up to class and did well.

Good Professor, enjoyed his class. He did a good job of making things relevant and as long as you write down everything he does you'll do okay. Study the definitions in order to apply them to his test questions. Overall a very passable class with the curves he gives along with the extra credit towards the end of the semester.

This is an econ part of a two part class. The professor is just ok. He covered the material. The homework is very long and time consuming. The tests are also fairly long. The final was all written and took 3 hours. Do the best you can in stats because this part will be tougher.

Showalter is good dude. He teaches well and explains everything through his graphs and such. Handwriting is not that great but you get used to it. He gives pop quizzes sometimes , but they're not that hard and you get a 70 just for trying if you fail it. He curves tests, and makes some decent jokes. Solid Econ professor would take again no problem

This is the Econ portion of the class and this guy did a great job of teaching it. His lectures were straight to the point and note taking is a big part of getting a good grade since there are open book tests. The homeworks and tests are actually challenging but he offers extra credit and it works out in the end. Do well on the stats part first!!!!

This class in general is pretty difficult. It's a little more of an abstract way of thinking. Showalter is very clear and concise when he speaks but he does lecture pretty quickly. He doesn't take attendance but gives random pop quizzes that you will get at least a 75 on if you're just there. Hard work. Have to buy MyEconLab.

I absolutely love economics and could be shifting curves up and down all day long. That's why I thought this class was easy and I really enjoyed it. I know some other students were struggling, but Dr. Showalter is a decent professor who answers all questions and whose lectures are clear and straight to the point.
