Really easy class if you already have some programming experience (such as ECS10). At first I was sort of lost when I was introduced to the UNIX system but once I got used to it, it was pretty easy. Test weren't that hard but people around me were having a hard time. Got over 90% on all tests though the cutoff for A- was around 72% based on the mea

A lot of people in previous posts complained about him because they arent cut out to be programmers. This class is a piece of cake compared to ECS 40. Overall i enjoyed this class a lot, lectures were really good. Deans a pretty nice guy, although tests were hard, you learn a lot. All i can say, you learn a lot.

The only thing is that you HAVE to go to class all the time because he doesn't post notes online, and this is pretty much the only way to learn. The programs can be very tricky, but as long as you go to class all the time you should be fine.

Very friendly guy, relates well with the students. Teaches well and knows his stuff. Always willing to answer questions after lecture, even off-topic ones. His program hw isn't bad, p4 is the worse but still not bad. His tests are hard because he expects you to know your stuff and be able to think on your feet. I highly recommend him.

I took this class as a non-ecs major which was a horrible decision. Sneigowski made this subject as easy as possible though and was very fair in doing what he could to help you out. Don't take this class for fun, but if you have to take ecs, this is a good teacher to have.

UUUUUUUUUUghh!!!! Terrible - can't understand a word. Doesn't explain chronologically and doesn't talk about what is in the book and doesn't give homework that relates to stuff discussed in class!!!

I'm not a CS major so this class was somewhat hard for me. Lectures are well done, and assignments show how C code works.

Great Teachers. Teaches very well. Makes thing very interesting. I had about 1.5 years of experience in CS before entering this class. Most of the stuff in the class was review to me, but he still makes the stuff interesting to me, so I'm pleased. His tests are easy and he makes things that I have never learned before easy to understand.

worst teacher to take for ECS 10..especially if u have no prior knowledge of programming. unclear, kept confusing himself with info from his other upper div classes..teaches as if you should be understanding the info rite away...cute guy(minus the glasses and button up short sleeve shirts), but the class is way more work than expected.

Weekly homework that took forever to do. MT was hard but doable. The final wasn't too bad. Just spend time reading the book and thinking hard and you should be fine.

Everyone who "likes" Dean as a teacher is in ECS 30 or upper div. For people with no programming experience, and no desire to pursue a career in this field, he is much too unclear and a horrible professor - most everyone agrees on this, based on people I have talked to. He is UNORGANIZED TOO - no lecture plan or anything! Not enough examples either

By far, the most approachable instructor I have had yet... it's nice to have an instructor that makes you feel like you are more than seat-filler.

This was a very good class for me and learned ALOT! His programs were challenging enough but plenty of help was availabel especially from Dean and the TAs. To those that complained that Dean was not helpful during OH, my experience was the complete opposite. He was very helpful and showed what I was doing wrong. He does expect alot from you thou

His explanations and proofs were clear, and he went over stuff when it seemed like we didn't understand it. He helped me pick classes even though he isn't my advisor. He's funny and easy to pay attention to, especially in 120. Take a class with this guy!
