Comment:

I love Dr. Shika, she is passionate, and if you put in the work, she will help you grow as a student. Deep is not a typical Katie professor, she grades tough and expects a lot out of you. But if you pay attention and keep up with her changing her mind about deadlines (which is not the greatest thing I'll admit) you will have an amazing class.

She gives us a lot of time to ask questions during the collaborative online session. I highly recommend attending these sessions as she will walk you through everything you have questions on. Show your work for max credit! Do not fall behind on your work and be prepared to "show up" on line or your will not pass. Truly you must be present to win.

Be ready to get out of your comfort zone and stay on top of the work. I learned a lot but the growth was painful. If you don't understand anything, be sure to go talk to her. Can be very understanding and flexible depending on your situation. Could also be very rude. Hardest class I've ever taken. I would take her again just for the learning.

She has taught probably the hardest class I've ever taken, but it was so worth it! Do not take her class if you are unprepared to be pushed out of your comfort zone. If you need help in her class, go in and ask. But be aware, she knows if you've given your all or not. She is also very understanding and flexible when it comes to due dates.

Comment:

Deep is a very critical thinker and lives the St. Kate's motto. Her passion for Economics is very clear--she knows her stuff. She takes teaching very seriously, do not show up late or think you can slide by without doing the assignments or presentations. She sets high expectations but not unattainable-expect to be pushed & grow from it.

Awful. Professor was disrespectful & condescending to whole class. Never followed syllabus & frequently added extra work off the top of her head. Interrupted student presentations to criticize & call us names. Required a 'textbook' that was terribly written. Avoid at all costss it is not worth a semester of abuse

Dr. Shikha is very intelligent and gives an amazing lectures. But, don't think her classes will be easy! Prepare to work your butt off but all the hard work is worth it at the end! Her classes are writing intensive and my advise is, do not to take any other classes that are writing intensive, if you are planing to take her classes.

If you think it's going to be easy, think again. Deep is such an inspiring professor who constantly challenges you to critically think issues around the world and how it relates to economics. Her assignments are very long but all her tests are take-home and are reflected from the assignments. You cannot deny her passion for economics & empowerment.

This professor seems to enjoy embarrassing her students. She is condescending and extremely disrespectful to an environment that should embrace different opinions and diversity. assignments were unclear and she never followed her syllabus (which had due dates listed from the previous semester anyways and proved useless)

I had little interest in Economics before taking her Economics of Social Issues class. She has a genuine interest in her students and their ideas, but she's only going to give back as much effort as you give her. DON'T BE LATE!!! And be prepared to write a lot. If you give her time and effort, she will return it ten-fold.

I took Economics of Social Issues with her and it was great! She has a very collaborative teaching style and if you try she will appreciate the effort. Study hard and be careful of wording. She's very picky about wording. We also had an awesome TA which helped. I don't know if I could have taken any other class with her though. Thumbs up, Deep!
