Comment:

Dennis' lectures were interesting, and he is hilarious. He was very easy to get in touch with and wants to help his students succeed. The midterm was difficult because of the amount of detail he expects the students to be aware of, but if you do the readings and take notes in class you'll be okay!

Dennis is an incredible prof, one of my favourites in my university career. He genuinely wants to see students succeed, gives great pep talks, and really drives home important points during the lecture. You definitely need to come to lectures, as he doesn't post notes or the lecture outlines, but the readings do provide some good info, as well.

Comment:

Dr. Sweeney is one of, if not the best professors at this school. His lectures are interesting and he is very helpful outside of class. He's caring towards students and always open to hearing other people's ideas and interpretations. Reading isn't necessary to pass but it is for an A. If you don't read you MUST come to class; he posts nothing.

Great prof, respectful and very helpful if you go see him outside of class. There were no exams in HIST290, but we had 3 papers over the term. I had a hard time meeting the deadline for the final paper so I asked for an extension (with no excuse except that I was having trouble getting it done on time) and he gave me one without any trouble.

Sweeney Rules. Provides a ton of help outside of class. Lectures are clearly organized and easy to follow. Readings provide much help for midterms and finals. Provided the 6 essay questions on the exams beforehand and gave you a choice from 4 of them. One of the most respectful, down to earth professors I have encountered. Take his class.

One of my favorite profs from my time at U of A. Great guy and a great prof. He really makes an effort to support and encourage constructive conversation in seminars. Gives detailed feedback. He can be a pretty tough marker, but always fair. Highly recommended.

Funny, very approachable and decent man. Probably a stoner but he's hilarious. Marks fairly and gives you more choice than you probably deserve for the midterm and final. Never unfair. Would take his class again in a heartbeat.

Great Prof, very approachable. Gave plenty of "help" with midterm and final to limit stress. Midterm, Paper, Final. Textbook not mandatory IMO, but attendance is if you don't go the textbook route. I liked his lectures he adds his own sense of humour too when possible to liven it up. If you enjoy history you'll love Dr. Sweeny, Would rec. for sure.

Comment:

Great, easy-going guy, sincerely tries to make the lectures as fun as possible. He didn't use e-class so you have to come to class to get the notes (his power points have almost nothing). Gives great feedback and is available - assigns a LOT of reading though (not all of it mandatory). Lectures could get a bit dull sometimes (but that's history).

Sweeney is hands down my favourite prof of all time. Every class I've taken with him I'm so glad I did. He definitely uses all reading material and expects you to know them as well. Super interesting and thoughtful lectures. Great guy.

Hands down BEST prof I have EVER had in all my 5 years at the U of A. Adorable, funny, and extremely intelligent. Lectures are always engaging, and he is so understanding; if you are ever stressed, go talk to him and he will ease your suffering! No surprises on exams/assignments. Very fair marker, but expects you to know your stuff. Love him!

Oh how I love this prof. I have taken a few classes with him on purpose. He is smart, funny and oh so cute. He is very respectful of students and really tries to make the subject matter interesting. A great prof! I have taken three classes with him and would gladly take more. He emphasizes his own readings, which are very useful but not mandatory. He's a fair marker and gives you a wide range of topics for essays, but if you don't like them, he'll gladly let you come up with your own!

Sweeny was awesome! I had him for women's history, and he did such a great job! He was super respectful, and was really animated about the subject matter. I would definitely take another class with him.
