Somewhat of an average prof, didn't really see anything noteworthy about his teaching style, but don't really have any complaints either. He is an approachable prof, although sometimes he can be a bit confusing in his explanations. CSC350 was way too heavily focused on formulas and technical details

Not as awful as people here have been claiming. Sure, he'll make fun of you if you ask a question, but it's all part of the Church experience. Sit back, enjoy the class, and you'll find he knows an awful lot about virtually everything he's teaching and is really good at communicating said knowledge.

I think people are being a bit hard on Derek. He was always helpful when I had questions after class. Then again, my questions were typically things that were over and above the scope of the class. He doesn't likes slackers. His understanding of the course material was decent and the exam was fair.

Church seems to crave student failure. He will routinely try to "trick" you into losing marks. Don't bother visiting his office, he will only mock you (seriously!). I got an A+, due only to rote memorization of the BS on the final exam. Others weren't so lucky.

Has a bit of a god complex. Even those his contribution to the computer science world is nill, he acts like he invented the computer. Assignments for the most part are easy, but if your assignment doesnt compile for any reason you get 0 on it, so watch out. If you are a slacker, Church will fail you

Absolutely Abysmal. Final exam murdered dozens - insta-fail. One page was the complete pseudocode for the Romberg algorithm (look it up, massive). Arrogant jerk, sodomizer in disguise. Highly recommended you do not take a class with him. Look out...
