Yes, there is a reason why he is Professor Emeritus. He may have been at the cutting edge of teaching and research back in the day. Unfortunately, I find him tragically lagging behind in both domains in 2012.

TAKE HIS CLASS! Professor Morton is brilliant, funny and is wise enough to not care about the small stuff. Always answers emails, is interested in what you have to say as long as you've put thought into it and has a good grading system. It was a joy to be in his class. By far my most positive experience with a prof at McGill!

Take a class with him if you can - he makes all your work worth it. Intimidating but entertaining and understanding. If you're giving an oral presentation and don't have your facts straight, beware! He will interrupt you and hijack your presentation. A fantastic teacher, though.

Brilliant!! Hard to stay on one track though, loves rabbit trails. But BRILLIANT! I recommend taking one of his classes to anyone. Can be a bit harsh, does not really hold with the times, but definitely deserves to be where he is. Read his books, too. The man is brilliant.

Beware, this professor can REALLY turn on you. If he doesn't agree with you, expect to receive a terrible grade. If you don't fit into his outmoded white/ivorytower/conservative historiography, then you will be burned. Not interested in anything new in the academy or engaging other ideological perspectives. Extremely disappointing professor.

No question the man knows his stuff. Unfortunately he has dedicated his scholarly research on the rather bland and uninteresting topic of Canadian history which makes getting involved in the class somewhat difficult. Seems a bit disorganized and the lectures although at times entertaining are frequently all over the place. Extemely smart and witty.

An honour to be taught by him. He is condesending, but he has earned the right to be. He does so also with class! He is an excellent professor who pushes and challenges his students. When you think you have Canada figured out, he slams you with another view. Great Man, scholar and prof!

His Military History class is worth taking if you're very interested in the subject matter. A privilege to be taught by one of the country's foremost historians. He teaches history as it should be taught: With focus on the characters.

A celebrety... (Writer, Journalist for Gazette, and friend to politicians). That pretty much sums it up. He is cocky, condesending and at some times, blatently rude. Nonetheless, he is not a slave driver, and is VERY INTERESTING. I would take him again.
