Thank god this woman retired this year! She SUCKS and made me hate bio. They probably put her up there to bore the pre-meds so they would consider changing career plans. She was so oldschool and I'm glad that woman is gone from Rutgers. Transue took over and he is such a better professor than this woman. Kathy agnese(her ASSistant) SUCKS as well.

READ THE TEXTBOOK. Exams are very tricky. Need to know details. Read, outline, and study a lot. Labs are easier but read for those too. there is a quiz every week

exams are hard, study a lot. lectures aren't super useful. read, read, read. emphasize the material mentioned in lectures and go beyond by looking in depth at videos and such online. big curve.

I actually like Dr. Martin. She is a very nice person and although her lectures are sometimes boring, she makes up for it by making jokes. But, like most professors, she does expect students to read the book before attending lecture. The people who say this class is way too difficult probably barely make an effort in reading the book.

i have to admit that I dozed off many, many times in this class! I tried typing notes to stay awake. I studied my notes and gave my heart and soul when reading the textbook. Got an A.

Dr. Martin really is not as everyone makes her out to be. She talks slowly so it's easy to take good notes. Just be sure to get the lecture outlines at the MSLC! They are the most important things to study before her exams; maybe only 10-15 questions on the exam will not be covered in the outline. As long as you're willing to work, you'll do fine.

Buy her lecture notes (or copy/scan them yourself, just ask at MSLC). Go to lecture, because anything she doesn't cover in lecture won't be on the exams (even if they're mentioned in lecture notes). Her lecture reviews were helpful if you have questions, as well as TA office hours. Don't slack off in lab. She's a decent professor.

She isn't as bad as people say she is. She talks slow enough so you can write down good notes. Her lecture outlines will save your butt when studying for her difficult tests SO GET THEM. Yes, they are hard, but that means a bigger curve. Read the chapter before going to class and study hard. Science is hard, don't try to blame the professor.

Useless going to lectures. you are better off using that time doing something more productive. The Bio department prolly sucks as a whole but from amongst the 3 professors I've had - Martin, Transue and D'arville...Diana Martin was the worst, she is so boring and hardly teaches. make sure you study VERY hard-only way u can keep up ur A's and B's

Dr. Martin is not really as bad as all these people comment. Her test questions are a bit tricky, but she gives out notes and pictures from her slides ahead of time so its easy to take notes. Got an A in both 101 and 102, no big deal

Do not, under any circumstances take this professor for General biology lecture. She just reads the slides and can't answer any questions that are not answered in the slides because she doesn't know. Her English accent also doesn't help at all TAKE PROF GAUGLER, OR ANYONE ELSE FOR GEN BIO!!! AVOID MARTIN!!!

Insanely difficult. Moves quickly through volumes of slides in her lectures. What could be worse? The fact that you can't get any of her slides online. Something has to be wrong when <20% correct on a test is a what 75% of the students get. Takes pride in her coauthored book- needs to take more in teaching. Stay away if possible!

tries to mess up our lives by giving choices like: more than one of above, all of above, and none of above. Also test materials that are described in few sentences instead of couple pages.

Make sure to bring a pillow to lecture. You will fall asleep at any time of the day when she opens her mouth. You would be better off sitting at home and reading the textbook (which she co-wrote).

Some people find Martin's lectures very helpful. Personally, I did not attend one lecture and did these things 2 weeks before each exam---read the chapters intensely and fully completed the outlines martin suggests after reading---and received a B.

Martin is an average teacher. She is a bit boring and tries to be funny at times. She's not that bad, if you had a choice between Martin or someone else teaching on Cook/Doug, take martin because she makes a large portion of the exams. Just read the book and do the outlines, and you'll do fine if you study frequently (not night before).

don't bother going to lecture. went to every single one and almost none of it was related to the exams. she rambles and talks about things that aren't even close to important or interesting. just plain awful
