Professor Buchner is a very kind and enthusiastic professor. He is very passionate about the course material. This class is not difficult at all but your mark consists of 3 papers (1 of them being a final paper) and there is no midterm. I have not gained very much knowledge from this class (no facts or memorized material), a lot of interpretation.

very easy class - only 3 papers to write throughout the semester + no tests. Papers require no knowledge from class. If you choose to go to class you won't learn much, I'd only say take this class if you're wanting an easy a and to learn absolutely nothing.

He is really patient and understanding with students. He clearly outlines what exactly should be in your papers. He only assigns 3 papers all semester and there is no final exam!!

Really easy course and friendly prof. No final exam. 3 papers total and nothing else. I didn't show up to many of the classes and was fine, everything you need to do the papers is in the course pack or on MyCourses. Didn't use the textbook at all really so don't bother buying it. Usually gives grades within the 80-90 range on each paper.

Through this course, my thoughts and beliefs have been challenged to see new perspectives and ideas in a respectful and caring manner. I initially thought this course was going to suck, but this Prof. Made it worth it. Not a tough grader, he's more focused on assessing that you've grappled with the concepts and ideas presented.

One of the best teachers I have had at TWU. Dirk is so funny and kind. He teaches to get students to understand the material and learn, not just memorize facts. I would love to take another class from him again! Great professor!

He is a really kind and humble guy, and he is passionate about religious studies. I found his classes wonderful to be a part of, because of his excitement to the subject. At times, I was a bit bored, but overall was a good experience.

I despised this class. I like a challenge, and this class certainly wasn't one. It is dull, and as I was raised in a Christian home, and attended a Christian school all through grade school, I learned absolutely nothing. I expect more from a class I pay more than two thousand dollars for.

Comment:

Best way to start Monday (and Wednesday) mornings. Dirk is hilarious, and he doesn't mind making a fool of himself to help you remember ideas. Sometimes a little vague on expectations for papers, it mostly comes down to writing "from the heart". Very kind and caring teacher, loved his class (and his classical guitar skills).

Oh man, this guy is HILARIOUS and has a lot of great ideas about the Bible. I would definitely recommend Rels 101 with him. Easy, interesting and entertaining. I wish the class had been smaller though; it would have been nice to get to know him better.

WONDERFUL MAN & PROF! Dirk is so kind hearted. I've learned so much about reading the Bible. He is very helpful and gives you everything you need to succeed if you take it and run with it. His marking scheme is hardly structured, but basically he just loves when you write a lot and write passionately. Both 101 and 222 are wonderful classes!

He is a really nice guy, and can play classical guitar like you wouldn't believe. But, he does not know how to teach the OT. He has a very strange understanding of the OT. You will sit there and go "what?" I would not take his class again. I just didn't learn anything.

HORRIBLE at marking midterms/finals. He has no set marking scheme or criteria. He goes through the exams making check marks on interesting points, gets class average of check marks and assigns that to 68%.
