his tests are all essay and are easy i made a 100 and barely went to class. His voice is so boring and annoying he barely talks above a whisper. He's very opinionated. dont go to class and read- you'll get an A.

Boring and offensive. One of the worst teachers I have ever had. I sat on the front row for two days then moved to the back so I couldn't hear his crap. He's not organized, and his notes are aweful. If you put in the reading the tests aren't hard. I rarely went to class and opened the book 3 or 4 times and made a B. Don't take him!

Dr. Engels is one of the smartest people I've ever encountered, but he has extreme difficulty putting his knowledge on the level of his students. He tends to express his personal opinions too often in the classroom, which just end up making people irritated at him. He's very intelligent, but what's the use with no connection with your students?

Dr. Engels is a bright man. That being said, I must add that if he spent as much time talking about Roman history as he did about how the germans and english are 'fascists' and american public education is going to hell, he would be great.... but he doesn't and so you're pretty much on your own. For the love of God don't get behind in the reading!

Very interesting class, he knows his stuff. BUT, everyday for at least 10 minutes, he gets on his soap box to bash everyone who is not a bleeding hard liberal. Outrageously annoying because it's in the middle of a very interesting lecture. Only take him if you have patience.

be sure to grab a traveller so you have the crossword puzzle to do....i admit he knows his stuff...but the man gets so carried away talking about racism and all his other tangents...his tests aren't so easy either....they are all essay tests....i prefer multiple choice...nice guy...knows his stuff...just very very boring.

Had him for WCIV I, he had some interesting points, but he just went on and on about stuff in his book sometimes. Monotonous voice. You had better get plenty of sleep before you go to his class otherwise parts of the lecture will magically disappear. I think he might be better in a smaller setting. Tests are fairly hard, freshmen avoid him.

Knowlegeable but biased. He allows his opinionated tangents to distort or obscure the material he is trying to teach. Tests are easy if you're good at essay, but avoid him at all costs if you actually want to learn anything. Take Finlay instead.
