Just brilliant. Very human and so passionate about what he does. Sure, he's a bit arrogant, but I think he's earned it. I'm currently a PhD candidate in clinical psych. and Dr. Carveth has been a huge influence in my work - both research and clinical.

I really enjoyed his class. He made things more interesting by relating it to personal stories. He has a sense of humor, although it seems like other students don't. People take things too seriously. He answers emails almost immediately. Although i do have to say that his syllabus isn't easy to follow. His final essay is very heavily marked (50%)

Has no business teaching! Very unorganized and wants his students to fail because he refuses to answer questions or emails. Spends all class ranting I haven't learnt anything this term. Worst professor at Glendon. Also arrogant and has serious women issues.

Why is he in the sociology department at Glendon? Did he fight with the psych department, cause he's only about the psych-analytical life? Don't take his class basically, unless you about the Freud life.

Majoring in Psychology,Professor Carveth was, nonetheless, my favorite professor. Compared to the stiffness and rigidity of the overall Psychology department, I felt very comfortable in Pr Carveth classes. He was human, easy going. His courses were very interesting touching the dimension of irrationality. Best ever professor in all respect!

Definitely an amazing lecturer. You don't need to do the readings for this class. He makes the otherwise dry course material somewhat interesting. The only downsides are that he makes you memorize 140 terms and only puts 5 on the tests (often ones that aren't central to the course). He's also very narcissistic.

Extremely clear in the lect. You don't have to do any readings as long as you attend the lects. Funny and very Freudian (but I like Freud, so it's fine). On topic, on time, but leaves right when class ends. You can always ask questions in the middle of the lect if you don't get it. People who say he's difficult is because they don't bother to work.

You have to at least show up to the lectures if you don't plan on doing the readings (I didn't), pay attention, and take good notes. Try to keep up with the list of terms he gives you at the beginning of the year, it'll help with studying. Passionate about the subject and very funny, I'll be taking another class with him for sure!

Brilliant lecturer. Mind you, if you don't keep up or care this class could slowly become hell-ish for you but if you do the readings you will see how comprehensive and interesting both the prof and material are.

He is egotistical and rude. Very unreasonable grader and unwilling to help any students Seeing him in office hrs won't help as he will tell you everything was your fault. Exam is memorizing 200 concepts and only 4 on the exam! I do not recommend taking his classes.

Egotisitcal? Definitely! But his passion about the material makes up for it. Incredibly inspiring, brilliant and humourous. Ties in concepts beautifully and blows your mind doing it. DO NOT take this course if you have no interest in philosophy and sociological studies, no questions about life, or are lazy and stupid. This class IS challenging!

Had his own stepson in his class (is that legal?). If u want to read 5 book memorize 200 terms (where u are tested on 14 for the whole year)and how they relate and then add another 2 essays, with a dilusionnal T.A. its a miracle I got a B+

Do not expect to learn anything worthwhile from this professor...unless of course you worship Freud and believe sex is the answer to everything. Its a whole lot of memorization for nothing. However if you do not take life seriously and want to take a class simply so you can laugh at other peoples bizarre ideas then go for it....

Carveth seems to have internalised the entire corpus of Freud's work, able to quote dates, places, and context with ease. He uses examples from everyday life & his own practice to help illustrate, making it both accessible and fascinating.

I would not recommend taking one of his courses...exams require pure memorization...give about 150 terms to define and link to other terms (can you say ridiculous). Wants you to write the same essay he had to write like 30 or however many years ago.
