Comment:

Cooney is very passionate about advocation and Social Work and it reflects in his classes. He is very interesting and easy to understand. I strongly recommend this class, and if you can take it just for fun, do it. Its pretty easy to get an A and the info is really great.

Comment:

It has been years since I had Dr. Cooney and I still think fondly of him. Although a lot of his passions and views were far too unrealistic and progressive he definitely gave me inspiration to go out and fight for social change in areas I saw underserved. An incredible man. What you got out of his class was what you put in.

Don is a good yet misguided person. A left over from the 1960s for sure. His dedication to leftist causes has prevented him from fully exploring the issues and making informed decisions in favor of impassioned decisions. Often unresponsive to emails and unorganized but really kind, nice and an easy A. He truly cares for people, maybe even to fault

If you want an A take Don's class. If you want to LEARN - SHOW UP to class! He is a fascinating person and lecturer. I didn't want to miss his classes just because they were so interesting. Also be sure to read the text because you will be put on the spot to discuss it in class. But a very easy A - no exams!

Dr. Cooney is a wealth of information. He is excited about working for the under-privileged and the outcasts. He is very bright about government and social policies that keep the under privileged, under privileged. He assumes you take his class because you want to learn. He does NOT baby sit you - he treats you like an adult! Eye opening

His lectures are VERY long and BORING. It's all history stuff, and I suck at history. He is very funny though and very knowledgable. You definitely need the books he requires too, everything is from lecture and the books. He does an exam of 15 questions and a max 2 pg paper for the exams so it's not too difficult. Overall, an alright teacher.

Dr. Cooney is by far the most interesting, passionate, and helpful professor I've had. Though he didn't keep track of attendance, I never wanted to miss class because his lectures really capture you. His class was eye-opening, and I recommend him to everyone. It would be a joy to see more professors with Dr. Cooney's passion.

Dr. Cooney ran for Congress when I took him, and as the other student mentioned, he was busy with his campaign. However, when he was in class he was a positive role model for his students. He energized the students to become more involved in the lives of others. He makes you think and ? the status quo-and isn't that what a good teacher is about?
