He has a very specific teaching style. If you do well learning from a textbook and doing a lot of your own work, then he might work for you. His lectures are mainly him covering examples and moving quickly from example to example without really giving a lot of explanation.

I adore Organic Chemistry and Dr. Marquardt. I have never had any background in this subject and he made it fun and easy to understand. Everything on his tests and quizzes were stuff he already lectured about. The weekly quizzes helped a lot and were a great way to stay on top of your game in the class. I highly recommend Dr. Marquardt!

Took this class my sophomore year after taking chem and AP chem in high school. I have never struggled so much with a class like I did with this one. He is impossible to get a hold of, and is no help when you do finally get a hold of him. Would not recommend if you aren't strong in chem.

Easy class, but the guy lost my quiz. I graduated from NMU and he is the only professor to ever completely loose a quiz and then give a 0 without any attempt to selvage the issue...ended up dropping me from an A- to a B+.

A lot of people struggled with this class, but in my personal opinion the people who struggled were the people who didn't study. The quizzes every week were always straight forward, and he never tested on anything that we didn't know. Put in time for this class and you will do fine. He is also a very nice person.

This Class shouldnt have been as hard as he made it! He is a nice person and is willing to help you, but always confuses himself and is hard to learn from. Class average on exams were around 53%. Attendence is never taken at lectures. take wth different professor if possible.

He's knowledgeable and organized when it comes to teaching. It takes him a long time to grade tests and he's never available outside of class for help. I had him for two semesters and he never responded once to the countless emails I sent him. If you have him as a lab TA don't expect to get any lab reports back until the semester is almost over.

Very helpful teacher. He posts practice quizzes, Exams, and does extra credit. Not more you can ask for from an organic chem professor. If you go to every class and do all the homework and attend the discussion sections you will do fine. The grading scale offers a lot of room for error.I have to say he's one of the better professors i've had.

Great professor. Lays everything out exactly how he wants it - gives practice quiz/exam questions in discussion. Not hard to get at least a B. All of his quizzes/exams are all the same format, do the portfolio and you'll do fine. I didn't crack the book once except for the homework problems and got an A-. Oh, and I didn't miss a single class.

He doesn't teach well. He is not good at his job, and that is that. When asked about his unfair exams he said, "I don't know why people are not doing well on these..." HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHY HIS STUDENTS FAIL!!! I really have nothing good to say about his man. NEVER, EVER TAKE A CLASS HE TEACHES! Do anything within your power to avoid him!

i agree about ch 111 this guy is all over the place. we'll be in section 13 of a chapter and all of a sudden he'll jump back to section 4 because he forgot to mention something. teachers should really take the time to read these ratings especially awful teachers like marquardt. the guy should learn how to teach
