I am now a graduate student in English Lit. and I have to say that I learned a lot from this elbow-patch wearing guy. For those of you who complain that he hates American writers... get over yourselves. We all know the best writers come from England anyway. You are all in denial. Great professor, extremely challenging..good luck State Students!

Out of touch with and condescending toward american education and lit. and boring as hell, especially Shakespeare. He will read aloud the entire time, and grades on attendance, which drives me nuts.

Like Shakespeare, he rewards the reader willing to work and put time into the text. Very compassionate man, dry British wit, amazing life story, and absolutely brilliant! Don't pass up the opportunity to talk with him during office hours. Be willing to prepare for essay tests (you will be given the questions ahead). Class is a can't miss!

You can tell that Shojai cares a lot about his students, and knows an amazing amount of British Lit. His lecture style is dry, but otherwise it's a good class, with ample time to prepare for the essay tests and adequate time for reading and discussion.

i took him for shakespeae. he's nice and he's brilliant, but he is a tough grader. if you're interested in examining texts, thinking, and LEARNING, i suggest you give him a try. if you want an easy A with no hard work, try somebody else.

First off, brilliant man. Very in depth class, hard grader, expects a lot out of his students. Pushes you to go deeper into the text and see the history and time period very well. Very interesting take on modern literature, take if you can

I took this professor for Shakespeare. His lecture method very, very dry and very boring. I came into the course enthusiastic about reading the Shakespeare plays, but he turned me off. Exams were essay style with a choice of two questions. Overall: POOR
