This class was pretty straightforward. Do sight reading EVERY NIGHT, it'll help. Do your best on dictation and show improvement during the semester, he likes that. If you need a good laugh, he has a lot of quirks that I found helpful in cheering me up.

I took adv. theory with DWatts and I got a lot out of it. However, he teaches his grad students the same way he teaches undergrads, which is not good. There is no reason why his undergrad classes have a 50 per cent pass rate. He should take a teaching workshop.

Dr. Watts often get a lot of bad rap, but I've found him to be an excellent teacher. He's very clear in class about his expectations, he explains everything, he wants everyone to do well, and he's always available for extra help. ALWAYS. If you work, you can learn a lot.

Dr. Watts is defnately not one to overlook laziness. If you want to pass, you have to work hard. On the other hand, he knows his stuff really well and can explain it very clearly and he's happy to help outside of class if you ask him. He's fairly easy to get along with, but he doesn't give out good grades to those who don't work

I'm not really a theory person but Dr.Watts made the class as interesting as it could be. Yes, it's hard. Yes, he doesn't give away A's. But if you just pay attention and come to class all the time, you'll learn a lot (about music, about his son, about earphones, etc..) Do your best and you'll get what you deserve.

He lectures like an upper level textbook. The people that like his style could get an A in his class just by reading the book. Most people however need someone who can really teach. He is a theoretical genius but not a teacher. There is a distinct difference.

It's true that Dr. Watts talks about his son a lot, it's true that the class can be hard, but if you pay attention to what he's saying about the material, and study hard, then you'll get good grades. Simple as that~ ^_^ So get off your arse and go study!

Dr. Watts was an excellent teacher. You have to pay attention and work to do well in his class, but I've learned more in his Musicianship and Theory III classes than in all of my other musicianship and theory classes thus far.

He expects students to already have learned all of the material. For those students who haven't learned it or do not understand it fast enough, he regards them as unprofessional. He has no interest in imparting knowledge. To sum it up, he has no compassion or love for other humans on this earth. That's not the person I want to be anywhere near.

I didn't fail this man's classes, and I do take responsibility for my education. He was very unhelpful, and unclear during class discussion. He is easily frustrated by students who don't understand after reading the text. He tends to favor those who have a natural ability for the subject matter, and will teach only to those students during class.

Dr. Watts was the greatest teacher ive ever had. Havnt you noticed that all the ppl on here slamming him were the ones that failed his tests. He gets some of the highest student evaluations of any teacher at Towson(thats a fact). He knows his theory and he only gets mad if you dont workor are a completet idiot who shouldnt be doing music.

Expects you to read the chapter and come to class with questions. No questions, nothing to teach. TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN EDUCATION and stop blaming someone else for your failures. Found him to be very helpful when I approached him with serious concerns about my progress.

Dr. Watts is a deplorable teacher. His students typically score low and continues to teach because the university can't do anything about it (academic freedom policies). He also plays favorites. He needs to be retired.
