May have been a good professor once, but is getting old and losing it. Rambling, droning lectures that never got to the point. All assignments and tests were utterly unrelated to the assigned readings. Easy grader but not worth having to self-teach.

Awful. Expects students to know everything and anything about history. I wish this course had a better professor because the information is actually decently interesting.

If there was an encyclopedia article for 'quirky old intellectual,' there would be a picture of Wileman beside it. Expect him to be a friendly, well-spoken, slightly strange fellow who REALLY knows and loves his subject matter, tries to make it interesting, and often gets very tangential. He's very blunt, though generally lenient with due dates.

He's a good talker and he's interesting to talk to in general. Sometimes what he means isn't always clear because he's kind of vague and he tries to be sarcastic or funny. He's a good guy though, talk to him and show an interest and he'll help you along the way.

As far as I'm concerned, the best professor I've had at York by far! I find his lectures very in depth, interesting, and he usually uses music or pictures to make the material more interesting. I've enjoyed learning about the french revolution in depth from someone who has studied in as opposed to just getting a broad outline. An awesome professor!

Poor grasp on what history is important. Rather than give a measured and comprehensive history of Europe in the 17th and 18th Centuries, he elects instead to spend the majority of the course on the French Revolution, ignoring Russia and imperial wars amongst other valuable topics. The first paper was too advanced and poorly explained.

This dude is not a good prof. His lectures are overly verbose, effectively disallowing many students to understand. Rather than learning about Europe after 1870, all we learned about was one war after another. If you plan on taking this course with this prof, I suggest that you have a background in history. Avoid!! You've been warned.

This prof knows his stuff. Do lots of research on your essays and you will do well. He's an excellent historian/lecturer/story teller. Those who aren't interested in the subject matter may think otherwise. Great feedback on your mark.

I had him at UBC. He was a down-to-earth and yet urbane lecturer with a succinct writing style. I still remember those classes many years ago with fondness.

The students who say Wileman is hard to follow obviously never read the material before the lectures, as they were supposed to. If they had, like me, they would have found his lectures easy to keep up with, had questions to ask (which he enthusiastically answered) and would have understood that he is _very_ knowledgable. He teaches, not panders.

He did say look at the topics in the syllabus in regards to the exam- the topics did indeed end up being taken straight out of there!. Of course, if you didn't go to lecture you probably didn't even have one- your fault, not his. He's a fair prof, not intimidating although a little eccentric. If your IQ's over 130 you'll be ok in his class.

Ok, so his lectures are not easy to follow- unless you are a history wizz. However, this man is an expert in every aspect of Euro hist.! I think that reading the material before class would help, otherwise someone has to tell him that we (students) are not quick enough for him. Unfortunately, the academic level among students is too low.

He is just a terrible professor! I knew just as much coming into this class as I am leaving. What a waste of $950.00. The only thing this class did was steal my money.
