I took 160 this semester. If math comes naturally to you, you will do really well. I had to work really hard, but he is very straightforward with what he wants on assignments and explains things very cleanly. I really liked this class. It made me decide to be a math major.

During office hours, his approach comes off as degrading and rude. He only has a job here because he is tenured in. Not the type of professor you want to have, when Calculus is important to your future. Grades rigorously.

This was definitely not an easy class. However, if you study enough and concentrate during lectures, it's no harder than any other math class. Dr. Rall is sometimes hard to connect with because he is so smart. He will sometimes assume the students should know more than what they do and breeze over relatively complicated concepts. Overall, he's good

Impossible. He can't teach in normal terms well; frustrated throughout the course. Don't expect to make an A. I am a math major and struggled more in this class than in any other I've taken. Don't recommend taking him. The other section of 160 had higher grades and higher comprehension.

Impossible. I learned the material, but the class itself was impossible to make an A in. Rall's nickname is "fail-em-all Rall" for a reason. And I'm a math major. He knows his stuff, but he can't really explain it well in normal terms. Will not take the class again.

I'm not sure why people are complaining, calculus isn't expected to be easy. He's a great guy as long as you ask questions and do the assignments. I recommend taking him.

Rall does not make you come to class or give many grades so this class can be tough if you get behind. He is a good guy once he get to know him and is open to help at office hours. If you study and do homework an A is possible.If you want an easy A this is not the class though because he is a tough grader.3 tests and 2 quizzes wtih no hw and final.

Very hard teacher. However, you can survive his class if you do your homework every night and understand it by either asking him questions or looking at the solutions manual. He is very willing to help if you need to meet one-on-one. He is very brilliant at math but cannot communicate it well to his students, but he's also not impossible.

You can tell he knows what he is talking about; however, the odds are that you won't. He teaches the class like you know as much as he does, and he doesn't communicate the material very well. He doesn't grade daily assignments or require attendance. Tests usually involve harder problems that what's in the book. Oh, and he DOES NOT CURVE TESTS!

Not a bad guy by any means, but not exactly the clearest in his teaching. He's just SO brilliant in math that it's difficult for him to relate to students who don't learn as easily. But he WILL try to help if you need it. Study for tests a ton... but it's hit or miss. I wouldn't despair if you get him, just be prepared to work. Can be funny.

decent teacher, I felt like I was learning but tests were really tough and included lots of crazy applications that I felt like I'd never seen before. Doesn't curve tests. Takes off points if you don't do it his way. Didn't hate him but will avoid him again if I can

Decent teacher. Is pretty much anti-calculator so if you're pretty attached to your calculator, stay away. VERY personable. If you need help, get it. He explains things better in person. Spends a lot of time proving theories but not on how to apply them. If you get him, stay to date w/ homework b/c he tends to give quizzes with only a days notice.

Pretty good, spent lots of time explaining how to do everything, did quite a few examples. Always willing to answer questions. Had to really rush to finish the material at the end of the term. Tests were difficult but definitely manageable.

The class itself is not hard, but he will nail you on details, make sure you study the EXACT way he does the problems (steps, mathmatical symbols, wording). Also, if you have trouble go to him and get help, he is much more helpful in person and it's a lot easier than guessing what he wants.

Terrible teacher. Do not take him for Math 10 because he gets so theoretical in his lectures that you end up falling asleep. I swear, I can sit through a class where he is teaching something, and end up not knowing anything at the end of class. It is best to stay away!

Mathematical teaching at its finest. Ask questions when confused. Expect reasonable answers. Work hard; expect to be rewarded. Follow the mathematical style he advocates (it IS correct) and expect success.

Don't take him for math13.Wasn't a horrible teacher, but he definitely didn't make the class exciting. He doesn't give many tests, so make sure you don't mess up on one - you won't be able to make it up no matter how good the rest of the grades are...
