Comment:
The first few weeks of lectures and field trips are very important, don't miss it or its your downfall. Expect to show some serious learning attitude otherwise he won't give you the attention. Doug has high expectation, if you aren't equipped with some higher (basic :p) level math and geology background, you might struggle.

The class itself is really interesting, however, to be frank, he is really rude to students for no reason. You can not really go to him for help without him making you feel like you are more stupid. He does not explain what he wants well, and when you do something wrong after he taught you to do it that way, you're the one that gets reprimanded.

This professor has an anger problem, he often yells at students for making simple, innocent mistakes. I had only taken one lecture from him and before he assigned any homework. He stated that I was going to do very poorly in his class before I had a chance to prove myself. I had received an A in the prerequisite course. Rarely had I been offended.

Field work heavy class, which I loved! I felt he wasn't always clear on what was expected on some assignments, or what to expect on exams. Still, at one point I was struggling with graphing in excel and he met with me outside of class and outside of his office hours to help me work through it. Great professor! And dorky funny!

Doug is awesome. He is very enthusiastic about the subject. Expect to spend more time in the field than in class. No real homework, just papers. The only test is the final, maybe a midterm. He comes up with a plan for class on the fly. A couple days before you find out where you are going. Overall, he is enjoyable, and makes quirky jokes.

I love Doug! He is a great teacher and a knowledgeable geologist. He may have been a little boring sometimes during classroom lecture, but he definitely made up for it with all his field trips. All ESSP majors have to take this class, but I greatly enjoyed it, and would take it again!

This guy knows it all and he is able to deliver that info to his students. He teaches you how to think rather than memorizing stuff. I would acually look forward to his class.

Doug is great. He isn't easy, but who the heck comes to college hoping not to be challenged? Doug is especially great in the field. Excess sediment is the #1 non-point source pollutant in North America, and don't you forget it!
