Comment:

Literally everyone in my Life Drawing course was talented and quite a few people I know for a FACT can make their drawings look like PHOTOS but Duat has a particular style. The class isnt difficult in the means stuff of it being hard, but its difficult because Duat only gives an A to people who imitate his style of drawing (cartoon/anime-ish)

PART 2 Duat gives decent feedback but he is ultimately rude with how he speaks to students. In my previous comment I noted how he has a specific style. I am a hyperrealistic artist and he was somewhat rude to me every time Id add any detail to my work even when I was practically finished with the amount of work he wanted us to be completed with.

Took a drawing 1 class with him and I dont understand any of the good reviews he made all of us hate going to class everyday and if we didnt understand something he would act like we were dumb. Hes only nice to people that suck up to him, the only plus is that my drawing got better but only because he made me fear him if it didnt get better.

I'm not understanding the good reviews lol. He must have changed over the years or something because this was the worst class I have ever taken. Ever. Very hard grader and doesn't give any sort of freedom or creativity even when you're supposed to in the final. Just don't do it. He makes people cry. Literally.

Duat, a tough grader but overall an excellent teacher. I have never had a teacher care about his students so much. He teaches everyone at their own speed. He also recognizes that some students aren't as talented and critiques based on individual basis. Can be a tough grader but w/dedication and the work he blatantly tells you to do you will do well

I had Duat for painting I, and learned more in the first two or three weeks than I did in the three previous semesters. Although he will teach you the the skills and concepts required to create a healthy body of work, his style doesn't allow students to explore. I'm interested in learning more from him. Would take again.

Oh Duat...I was terrified of this man in the beginning but learned from day one. My drawings improved with each class. By the end, I'd figured out he was not only hilarious but one of the best!

Duat is very strict and blunt, but also genuine and hilarious once you get past his initial intimidation. He is one of the most intelligent professors I have had in college and understands and explains drawing in a way like no other teacher. His class will really help you improve, but you must be willing to work.

Duat is AMAZING! If you don't want to work don't bother taking his classes. You will spend more hours in studio than most because his expectations are high. His humor is dry but he's hilarious if you just listen. Very helpful. Helps you to create your own vision. I wish I could have taken every studio course with him. I've graduated but I miss him!

Duat Vu is an absolute jerk. I dreaded going to class for the rude and critical comments he would make. However, he blows everyone else out of the water in terms of teaching you to draw. Everyone's skills in his class improved dramatically compared to other classes. Also, the music that he plays during class is absolutely rediculous and hilarious.

Duat is a really good teacher. He'll admit that he's still learning, but what he knows is very valuable. I'm glad that is painting class didn't require exact rendering, he allowed for style and the impression of color. He does however have a terrible tendency to mumble and talk quietly. He's a pretty funny guy though and really helpful.

Duat may not be easy, but he's very good at teaching the structured ways of drawing. I appreciate learning the more technical ways to draw which will make me a better artist down the road when I have more freedom. He is blunt and can be very critical, but he knows what he's doing. Oh, he's also pretty hilarious at times.

He is not the easiest to relate to (or was not rather) but he can lead you to your potential if you follow. He's a weird guy and he's one of the few people I've met I'd consider a brilliant artist. Painting I - Wow, I can't believe Duat is getting bashed here. I haven't had him for drawing, but the concepts that he teaches in 225 I have learned nowhere else & they make AMAZING sense. He is more skill based then conceptual, but if you apply the things he teaches it works. He's also very funny and nice, just come to class & work hard!

Duat Vu is one of the most dedicated teachers I know. He loves art and he loves to help people understand art. He is structured in some of the beginning level classes. However, once you get to upper level art classes he helps you develope YOUR OWN conceptual art. I am lucky to have had the opprotunity to take his class.
