SOSC 1760 Class.Awesome prof, I did not know the difference of conservative or liberal before the class. Now I can have 4 hour discussions on political topics. Learned a lot. I think he is an excellent professor. He is very helpful and he has a great sense of humour. It was a great class to present both sides of all stories. For the exams, you just need to read the books very well and attend classes to be able to include some examples. By doing that, you wont have any problems at all.

Well Hooven is a right winger right down to haircut. I took him for left wing and right wing views of Canadian Politics. And the class over over the top bias towards the right wingers and was basically a class with Bush and conservative propaganda being shoved down your throat. The texts required this course were disgustingly right winged.

He is a terrible prof. He made us read three books about the whole year in my Canadian political economy class. Two of the books were not written by a canadian at all and were not about politic's. One book was so awful - it accused women who are abused of deserving it because they choose abusive men. He hates recyling, the enviroment and giving

Just another useless right wing professor. Reminds me too much of Bill O'Reilly; in fact his lectures are nothing more than political rants that are outrageously **** and **** at times. Doesn't tolerate debate in the class; don't even try to raise a stink if you want to get a good mark.

My favourite teacher at York. Very conservative but not biased (as some reviews suggest); he presents both sides of the argument and backs up his point of view with evidence. The reading material is discussed and debated extensively in class. His class is relatively easy for those who follow the readings.

Apprently Dr. Hooven gets his lecture notes straight from Karl Rove's fax machine. Enjoy his rants on all things liberal. Tests aren't hard in this class as long as you write what he wants to hear.I'd rather take a class in which both sides are presented, and I make my own decisions. Not one where only a single viewpoint is expressed and accepted.

Excellent! You will surely view things differently in the world after you take his course. Teaching style not the most interesting as it's just him reading parts from the book and then commenting on it...but meh...exams straightforward enough. Doesn't give marks away though, but if you know what you're talking about then you'll get an ok mark.

You learn a lot from him. This would be a very good course to take in first year, great teaching pace he goes at. People say he is boring, he talks about some very interesting topics from time to time. Its up to yourself on how good you can do in his course. He's tough but Bs and As are definitely achievable because he is fair.

Very interesting, difficult, we went through 4 books,tests/quizzes are not clear cut, but fair most of the time, he is a rightly which I like, he bashes the world and has reason to, all in all I thought it was a great course but im sure my mark isn’t that great.
