Comment:
I respected Elizabeth Hanson for her intelligence early on in the class. But I disagree with her unethical equation of politics with education and teaching literature. She makes highly politically insensitive comments, and often has difficulty finding her point/purpose in lecture because of this.

Absolutely phenomenal. By far one of the best profs I've had at Queen's. I was dreading this class because it's really not my area of interest, but it quickly turned into my favorite class. She's brilliant, and her lectures are very organized. Class participation is mandatory.

She's very smart, and very nice. But her lectures were written years ago and she reads them off her old paper. Her choices in TA's stinks too, and if you have a problem she sides with them every time. She herself is nice, but avoid classes where she isn't doing the marking because the person who does will destroy you.

She's obviously uber smart. But that class made me ant to die and then rip my eyes out. I hated every minute I had to spend sitting there. Every slow, painful minute. On the plus side she is REALLY nice and very fair. All you have to do to get an extension is write on a piece of paper 1 week before that you want one, no explaination.

Hanson was a fabulous prof. She was smart, funny, spoke excellently and really engaged the class with her material. She was not only great acedemically, but was very understanding in terms of workload and essays. She is one of the best profs in the English Department.

Comment:
Leaned way too heavily on feminist critique of Shakespeare. Usually only had one point to make, but spun it out for the 1.5 hour lecture. Avoid this prof. She is not unkind, but she's not a good teacher.

While she is a wonderful speaker, who is really interested in her work, her essay topic leave no room for creativity and the TA's she chooses stick!!!! Janna in particular was unhelpful and horribly hard, she ruined shakespeare for me, and my one qualm with Ms. Hanson is taht she didn't help me, she supported Janna though she knew she was wrong.

This woman is brilliant. She is able to connect ideas from so many disciplines (economics, religion, history, science, politics, art, music) to Shakespeare in order to give you a sense of the big picture. Her wit and depth of insight are inspiring. I think of her when I teach Shakespeare to my students.

Hanson is nice woman, but she's disorganized and seems to be unravelling. She let the TAs run around on powertrips because she was too head-in-the-clouds to notice. She should be in research; she's obviously very smart, but her teaching style is convoluted and at times, boring.
