Comment:
Never take this class with Lozano. She first of all is not clear about anything and makes her students afraid to talk. When you try to talk and you make one mistake with grammar she will scream and drill the whole class with grammar drills. She does not give As and is a terrible, terrible teacher. The worst I have ever had.

You WILL learn a ton of Spanish in this class. I suspect that some of the people writing reviews here are over-sensitive freshmen. If you don't participate multiple times every single class and work very hard on essays and tests, you won't get a good grade. Taking her twice before going abroad was the best decision I made.

Horrible teacher. Expects students to practically be fluent. If you get a question wrong, she'll stare at you until you get it right. Hardly anyone can get A's in this class. She grades really harshly. If you have to take Spanish for a university requirement, find another professor. Seriously.

She def has favorites. Unfortunately, I was not a favorite. She tends to call on the same people in every class. She's really nice in office hours, but she's not the best professor that I've had. She talks at you rather than teaches.

I happened to be one of her favorites, and I loved her. Only advice I can give is to be one of her favorites, look her directly in the eye during lecture and seem genuinely interested. Volunteer to answer questions you know the answer to so she wont put you on the spot when you don't know the answer. Great prof and really cares about her students.

Professor Lozano is a fabulous and fashionable professor! Yes, her class is tough, but she makes it worthwhile. Our discussions centered around critical current affairs, such as discrimination and immigration. She is extremely helpful if you go to her office hours as well. She is very passionate about teaching and truly cares about her students.

If you want a lower gpa, take this class. Lozano does not teach you anything and her expectations are extremely high; so if you don't know something, it will hurt you. When you try to participate, she ignores you and sticks to her favorites. I was completely lost in this class AND I'm a native speaker. So sad.

Just don't take it if you can. It doesn't matter how good you were at spanish before taking this course because she just does not give out A's. She goes off tangent way too much and rambles FOR EVER. The only good thing about her is that she tells you possible essay topics for exams. But still, just don't take her class. It's a waste of time.

She is the hardest professor I have ever had. I dread going to her class every morning. She snaps her fingers at you to conjugate and is always calling on the people she hates.I turned out to not be one of those people. She did help me with my Spanish, but she makes me so nervous to speak in class.Tests are okay. Cant use notes in oral presentations

I loved her, but I was definitely one of her favorites, for no good reason. I skipped class like 8 times because I slept through it and she let me make up a test. She's cool if she likes you. Can't speak for if she doesn't.

The most discouraging teacher I've ever had. She blatantly has favorite students and personal vendettas against others. Harsh grader, I've never had such a low grade in my life, especially in a Spanish class that I placed into from my AP score.

Very difficult teacher. She really knows and loves the language but definitely picks favorites and it shows. I work really hard and did well on the AP exam, but I just don't understand her grading style --aka you don't ever see an A. Unless she likes you or you get very lucky. Don't take her as a freshman...its discouraging.

Total nightmare, I got by comparatively well to some others in my class, she had several people on the verge of tears in some periods. As others mentioned she definitely picks favorites early on and if you don't have a very solid grasp of the spanish language going in, save yourself and take my word for it - take someone else.

Lots of homework, followed by in class discussion. She gives essay tests and has you write composition, expect a mid B at the most no matter how hard you try (unless you are practically fluent), oh yeah, no rewrites. My motivation existed to the point of just getting B's or C's because it was impossible to get A's and you never had rewrites.

Grades based on superficialities that one has no control of. Simply put: either she likes you or she does not. Unfair grader who overlooks errors on students whose work she likes while tearing apart work of students she has a 'problem' with. I do not see any way to please her (and I tried) unless you just happen to be one of her favorites.
