Comment:
Grad students in the RWS dept are required to take this class the first semester, and so it does feel like a rite of passage. However, the material is necessary background material for subsequent classes. Quandahl made the material interesting. I enjoyed this class.

she spent a great deal of time addressing my concerns outside of class, which i appreciate; but i felt the class could have used more structure and thought she tried to cram in too much in too short a period of time. i liked her, but can't say that i improved as a student after her class. i never got a chance to show her what i was capable of

Ellen knows her stuff. The class will be challenging, but she cares about students and wants to help you. Format is discussion style. I would reccommend her!

I am a serious student and would NOT recommend this professor. She is unapproachable and promotes an elitist attitide about education. I seems like she sees her class as a "right of passage"--lots of hoops to jump through.

Excellent professor. Really cares about the wellbeing and intellectual development of her students. Emphasis on class discussion and less on lecture. Would definitely recommend for the serious student.

Couldn't agree more. She is definately moody and very hard to pin down. She makes you feel unfortable around her, and gives off a very unfiendly vibe. She is certainly knowledgeable about rhetoric, but her pretentiouness is a real turn off. Don't take her unless you have to.

Shes not a bad teacher and she is enthusiastic about rhetoric. But shes a little anal and doesnt promote students to think very critically. Shes a bit intimidating, so it keeps you from speaking out. Seems kinda hard to pin down too. One day she'll be real nice and another day she'll be grumpy.

if she don't like you personally, for what ever reason, forget about saying anything in class, or getting a decent grade for your work.
