This is my second time taking Dr. Gardner and I really want to like his classes, but unfortunately, I do not. You are graded on two papers, class participation, a brief exam, and a final project proposal. While I did not enjoy the class all semester, the proposal made it worse. It is worth 300 points and you only have two weeks to do it. Good luck.

Dr. Gardner is very funny and respected. His teaching style does not alter throughout the semester and you are graded based on three exams, two major papers, and class participation. Expect to write a lot for the papers and exams. He is also a tough grader, but going to office hours does help. Also be aware that the class can be boring sometimes.

Dr. Gardner is a really nice guy, but not the best prof. His grading criteria is unclear and no matter how much I changed and edited my papers he still bashed them.

I have taken Dr. Gardner for 3 classes, and if I could, I would take him for everyone. As an English major, I highly respect him. He is by far the most knowledgeable professor in the English department. Once you can respect his knowledge, his classes are extremely enjoyable. He is by far the most humble professor I have ever had.

I've had Dr. Gardner for multiple classes. I definitely think that he's one of the smartest professors in the English department. It's true that he is a tough grader (basically never expect anything above a B), but not impossible to do well. "A true gem" is right. He knows his material, is passionate about it, and cares about his students

Students should only take Professor Garner's class if they are taking a light course load in other classes or have the time that it takes to be as thorough as he wants you to be. He is a tough grader but he gives great feedback on how you can improve and this feedback can definitely be applied in other classes, especially English.

Gardner is a tough grader. He gives good feedback, but extremely hard to get an A in his class. Attendance, and participation is mandatory.

Professor Gardner is a very nice man, and I have nothing against him. He is pretty upfront, and willing to help. However, his grading was impossible for me. I took two classes from him, and I had to drop both of them. I never drop classes. I'm normally very successful in others. When I think I did well, I get a failing grade.

Although Dr. Gardner is a tough grader, he is very clear on what it is that he expects from you. Exams are fairly difficult, but he gives very detailed study guides before each one. Overall, one of that greatest professors I've ever had.

His grading often seemed to myself and other classmates more strict than case need have been. He provided intriguing reading material, however I feel that he often had unrealistic participation expectations due to how he solely lectured 3/4 of the time without pausing to hear peer input. Nice guy, but way too harsh of expectations.

Nice guy. Interesting class. Reading assignments are actually decent. However this guy is the toughest grader I have ever encountered. You need a degree from Harvard to please this guy. After taking this class I have no faith in my writing skills. He will absolutely pick you apart. I have lost a lot of confidence after taking this professor.

AVOID. It's an english class, so you'll have to read, which isn't a big deal. However, TOUGHEST GRADER EVER. No matter how good your essays are, he will pick them apart. Nothing is good enough and good luck "acing" an assignment. I am a very good student and it was still difficult to please him. Lectures are extremely boring and the same every week

What an ODD man. He spent more time rubbing his beard and telling you how your interpretations do not match what HE feels the text meant. He grades hard and to his own little world of standards, just an odd little man.

He's very knowledgable in his subject. There aren't many assignments and you don't even have to do all of the reading. But his tests are somewhat difficult and he grades his papers harshly. I would take him again, though. For fun- count how many times he introspectively says "right... right....right....right".

Intelligent, well read, provides the historical context of the works being discussed which provides a frame of reference for the student.

He is a hard grader, no matter how many times you revise your paper you will get lower than what you expected. His test are HARD! He requires you meet with him at least 3 times to "see how things are going" but offers little to no help with the class. Oh, and he assigned 5 books for the class...yes, 5! You will have tons of reading to do per day.

Mr. Gardner was pretty cool. The class has a lot of discussion so try to talk and he'll like you. It will get quite awkward at times though because he'll just sit and wait for what seems like five minutes for someone to speak up. And THEN he'll eventually call on someone. The class is easy though, and the reading isn't that much & it's interesting.

HORRIBLE! he acts like we all have masters in English and should be able to make this deep and elaborate connections. He expects everyone to think the same way he does and if you dont then you are wrong. His lectures are boring and dry. I walked away from this class knowing no more than I walked in. DONT TAKE
