Comment:
Professor Johnson is a very nice man, but his lectures can tend to drag quite a bit. His philosophy is, 'If you show up and I see that you pay attention, you'll pass'. Reading for his class is still required, including a book that he wrote. He is a very knowledgable man but is too smart for the class level that he teaches.

Professor Johnson is a very nice man who knows the subject very well. I enjoyed going to his lectures for his own personal stories and experiences that he talks about. The class is overall pretty easy and you don't really have to come to class to do well. He gives study guides for each exam and lecture notes. Make sure to do the outside readings.

His class is essentially made up of lectures and outside of class readings. You don't have to do much reading to get by, as long as you know details of the novels you're going to read. His lectures are in-depth, but can be boring. Really intelligent guy who is very friendly and forgiving on grading.

His lectures are long and sometimes he rambles and can get off topic. But he sends out notes for every lecture and gives study guides for the exams that include what the essay questions will be. You can tell he really knows a lot and is very passionate about the subject.

Mr. Johnson is such a nice guy!! You can tell that he knows what he's talking about, and that he is very passionate about the subject. Although his lectures are mostly him rambling... his texts/exams are pretty easy, and if you miss class you shouldn't worry because he gives you study guide for each test and you can find the answers on google. :)

He's very passionate about the information, but isn't the best at conveying it. Lectures sometimes devolve into long tangents. Tests cover the broad topics from lecture and one of the course novels. Textbook chapters are very long, in small print. Essays on the novels will ask for specifics, sparknotes won't work; if you don't read you will fail.

Not really clear when lecturing, he sort of just rambles on and on. Not very many grades go into the final grade (4: midterm, another exam, final, and a final paper). If you read and show up you'll do fine.

He knows a lot about the topic & history of his many personal experiences. If u do bad on a test he will most likely drop it for u. He really wants his students to succeed. He is a bit all over the place so make sure you go to class a decent amount to get hand outs for future papers. Some of the books needed are on Sparknotes so check before buying

Professor Johnson knows a lot about the subject at hand. His personal stories are very interesting and worth coming to class for. I especially enjoyed that he had a holocaust survivor come speak to our class, this was a very unique opportunity. He is available to talk to his students and sincerely wants them to do well. I have learned a lot!

He is unclear with what he expects. His lectures are very long and dry. He gets off topic too much. He is very knowledgeable about his subject. Class is not half bad, but gets boring after two weeks.

His class is outright awful. He talks and talks and talks about all kinds of stuff, but never touches on the actual subject. After an hour of rambling he finally goes over the material but so fast you won't be able to figure out what's important. I expect so much from this class - nothing but disappointment. Don't take it. Waste of time and money!

Very nice, and down to earth, his TA's do just about EVERYTHING, so that makes it easier. One down side is this class is taught by him and prof. scherer, so this can be confusing. His notes can be hard to follow, but over all well worth my time. READ THE BOOKS

He really is a great professor. Honestly, to do well in this class all you have to do is read the books and listen to what he lectures about. It's only hard for people that don't do the work, if you don't do the work then you won't pass. It's your responsibility to learn too!

I suggest showing up for class. The notes are posted on BB, but by his TA. 5 books are required, and I would suggest reading them as well. It's a very difficult class if you don't do the reading, because his exams are all about the reading. Exams are also essay, so if you do poorly on essay based exams I don't suggest you take this class.

Amazing teacher. He is very funny, very knowledgable, and above all, his teaching mentality is incomparable. One of a kind teacher. Easy class with a very great guy, easy A and you read some great books. Highly recommended to fill a UP. Or just take for fun.

If you love WWII and Germany this man will give you all the information you will ever want or need. Take really good notes because the exams are lengthy and pretty difficult. You will need to read 3 books for this class. He has written like 10 books and is like a millionaire.
