1st and 2nd exam avg. respectively 48, and 40. Don't waste your time and money to take this guy. Exams are very tough. Up to you if you like hard professors. He teaches a bit better in this course compared to thermodynamics. His teaching method is crap. Not much examples or coverage. He only shows easy examples, way different than the ones on tests

Ratts!!!!! oh my God , I can tell you something and you try to think about it. we were 48 students , the average of first exam was 38, second was 43 . there is no relation between his tests and his HW. his project was from the mercury. no partial credits if solve every thing he will give u 2 or 3/20 . keep yourself away from his class.

The course is tough, and professor Ratts makes it much more intense. He makes students adopt a certain way of solving(thinking) and it helped a lot with other courses. He is incredibly passionate and his classes are never boring(if you're following). Requires intensive reading and class attendance. His tests are challenging but he curves.

Ratts is awful. Everything is on slides which he flies through leaving you little time to copy down. Are the slides online? NOPE! The homework will take you ages and its only 5% of your final grade. The other 95% comes from the final and 3 exams. Half the class dropped the course. From whats left about 50% of us are failing.......

I knew Thermal fluids would be difficult, but Professor Ratts does nothing to make the subject matter easier to understand. He flies though his slides (not posted online). Lecture material is either derivation or example; never the meaning of what he's teaching. Exams are remotely comparable to hw, and that's actually a redeeming quality.

Very knowledgeable and clear, but a tough grader. He goes a little fast but will stop and answer questions you have even if it takes long. Very helpful during office hours. Pay attention to details on homework. Tests and homework are hard but you learn a lot in his class.

Professor Ratts is an amazing teacher. He definitely knows his subject. All the exams are curved substantially, so don't freak out too much. Going to office hours is *very* helpful. Yes, the exams are tough, but the subject itself is a hard subject. Do his hw problems on your own, w/o chegg, and you'll be alright for the exam. :)

Ratts is extremely intelligent, which shows in his lectures. But I will say this, if you're not ready to put 200% of your time into understand the key elements in this class you will fail. Exams are QUITE difficult. For H.W. make sure you include all arrows, system boundaries, and don't skip steps! You will get marked off like 16 points easy.

Dont take him. Tests are extremely hard and not very similar to the lectures and the hw problems. Everybody complains on how he flies throw his powerpoints and you can never write an entire example problem before he switches slides. But at least he puts his powerpoints online for you to look and study at home right, NOPE! Makes class 1000x harder

Ratts is a very good professor if you are willing to work very hard for this class. His exams are hard but doable. If you only study the assigned homework problems , you will pass with a 50-60 %. However if you do extra practice problems from the book and understand them deeply you will do very well. He curves the grades based on the average.

I go to lecture. I've gone through every past exam and most of the book problems, and getting more than 50% on any exam is a joke. The textbook problems are far more trivial than exams and homework. He doesn't post lecture powerpointsuseful resources online. I know it's inherently difficult, but he certainly isn't trying to make it easier.

Tremendous workload compared to other 200-level classes, but you have to take it, right? Tests are more than you will be able to handle; typically curved to 40% or so is a C. That's not because its easy, though...Better get practicing those old tests he provides, they're your only hope, along with the home work and attendance. Seriously.

Ratts wants every problem done HIS WAY or else face serious deductions on exams. You know the class is messed up when it takes hours to copy the hw let alone do it. Belittles class for exam grades. Refused to push back an exam even though people had statics and dynamics that same week, only to cancel class the following week. Ok Ratts, makes sense.

Ratts is a knowledgeable prof with a few problems. Ratts treats thermo as if it is the only thing students are taking, with around 5 hours of hw per week; all while repeatidly reminding students to derive every equation in the book BEFORE class. He flys through ppts in class, its a wonder the arrow key isn't broken. Not too bad, but huge workload.

Teaches the material well. If you take time to do the homework and understand it, quizzes and exams are not that hard. Quizzes are tough and you may not finish on time but he will curve the quizzes. Thermodynamics is a hard class, so it is up to you to put a lot of time to understanding the material.
