I don't get all the positive reviews. I mean don't get me wrong, I liked the guy and all but I found this class to be pretty hard. The material is not all that straightforward since it is comp sci, and his teaching doesn't make it all that much clearer. I suppose I could've utilized his office hours though; probably would've helped me a lot more.

Dude Ernie was hilarious! The class was pretty easy. whenever I had problems with a program, Dr. A was available and helpful. Due dates were flexible and tests were super straightforward.

Professor Ackermann would always come to class with a smile on his face. Granted he never started class on time and we always had to wait for him. However, if you were struggling in this class and went to talk to him he would help you out. A great professor and I'm glad I took 230 with him. Ackermann is however retiring after the summer.

Great professor! He will let you go as far as you can and he will keep up with you, encouraging you all the way! It is up to you how much you learn in his class; if you are not motivated you may not learn as much, if you are very motivated you can get years worth of course experience out of one semester with him. Very intelligent. Very nice.

I loved Ackermann! He makes the most hilarious comments in class and is always willing to help you. I had never taken a cpsc class before, but he responded promptly to numerous emails asking for help when I was stuck on the homework programs and is very approachable. I can't wait to take another class with him!

Great teacher. A little bit quirky and prone to tangential ventures but he holds a very enjoyable class. He's willing to help with anything you need. Great teacher.

I love Ackermann. I think he's absolutely hilarious in class. He will not hold your hand, but recognizes when you are trying and will help as much as he can. Does go off in tangents, but if you pay attention you may learn alot. This class isn't that bad if you have a background in any type of comp language (html, css, java, perl, etc.)

over all a good professor, not real clear on details as far as homework goes. tends to space out in class. Reading the material is a must if you intend to pass the class. will help you if you have questions on homework.

He started the class by saying "the biggest complaint I have from my students is that I don't teach them anything. Well I expect you to read the book." I took a web development class with him, he didnt teach us anything about mysql or php or anything for the first two months.

worthless as a teacher, shows up unprepared and breaks the students into groups to read the textbook, then has the groups teach the class about it. tests and homeworks are some of the hardest you'll take. his lack of motivation is astonishing.

Kinda weird...hasn't shaved since 1995. (He said so in the q&a section of his website.) This class made me switch majors to computer science. He gives helpful advice for projects in class, and if you go to his office to ask questions about a project, he'll practically do it for you. If you study and do the readings, the tests aren't too bad either

Terrible. Has no formal training in computer science. Reads out of the textbook during class. Wastes 30 minutes of each class on doing nothing. Students seem to give him bad reviews at the end of the semester but nothing is done about it.

If he gives the options between projects and tests definetly choose the project option. His tests are next to impossible and he doesn't really teach you anything. Everything you will need comes straight from the text book. Lab-aids are your only hope in getting through this class unless you have a computer wiz friend He embarrases those who ask ?'s

Okay, I thought this clas was going to be easy? The Internet? Take home tests, easy right? WRONG. His take home tests took on average 12 hours and he grades them insanely hard. I write well and he tore my essays apart, this isn't an english class, Ackermann. He is nice and will help, and in class exercises are easy. Skip it if you can.

Very disorganized. Projects are confusing and have many holes. He doesn't explain things very well, because he spends a large portion of time on the obvious details. This class made computer science painful for me.
