Didn't learn anything from his lectures so I eventually stopped paying attention. He clearly knows his subject but he's more interested in showing off than in actually teaching something. Most condescending prof I've ever had. Nothing is clear and he changes his mind of a dime and doesn't tell the students about it. AVOID!

By far worst teacher at Concordia. I've never put so much effort into a class and got so little reward. He constantly changes the grading criteria of the weekly essays without advising any of us, yet your grades are affected. It's a bit over a month I'm into this class and he has changed the syllabus over 8 times. STAY AWAY IF U CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA

Doesn't lecture at all, makes you do 200-400 page readings between two separate books each week, then write a 500 word paper each week in which he grades harshly. There is attendance marks in the class, but hard to find motivation to go to class as all he does it talk about his personal life or about irrelevant topics. avoid.

You learn everything from the books . The only reason I went to class was because attendance was mandatory. His lectures are his opinions and he goes off topic a lot. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS Makes you read over 100 pages a week and expects a 500 word essay each week thinking we're only taking his class...

Honestly, though Professor Chalk was nice and friendly, he literally did no lecturing throughout the semester. The class was 100% discussion based, which really limits the amount of learning. You have to read to learn anything and be able to write the papers and weekly questions.

Do not take his classes. You were warned. He uses the podium to rant and rave about whatever he wants. His lessons are driven by his ego and biases. The the rest of the time with wikipedia and youtube and of course his own book.

Someone is flagging the comments saying to avoid this class. So I will say it again: AVOID. Unclear grading criteria, 750 words paper for huge subject and Youtube videos are what to expect.

Honestly, I would love to have a career like him one day. This Prof is very well versed on the subject . However, for a 200 lvl class he is a VERY difficult marker. Most of the class is spent watching films, and although they are somewhat relevant , most of your midterm/ final material is read at home. The books chosen for the class were very good!

Professor Chalk is a very interesting man! His lectures are full of insightful stories and it is clear he has an in-depth knowledge of the subject. His lecture are interesting and his papers are not to hard. He is not extremely computer savvy but I would definitely recommend him!

If you literally want the guy who wrote the BOOK on genocide studies, take Chalk's class. He carries the weight of human evil on his shoulders, and works to educate students about that evil to combat it. One of the emotionally hardest classes I've ever taken, but with no regrets. He shares an office with LGen. Romeo Dallaire. Enough said.

Lectures meandering and of poor quality. Personal bias over academic neutrality. Text resembles collection of Wiki blurbs. Assignments are unclear and he is brutal marker. Worst element though was his shocking disregard for his students. Incredibly arrogant and self-absorbed, he was unhelpful and even rude when approached after class or by email.

Simply put, Frank Chalk is a brilliant and established academic. He has authored several books, has travelled around the globe, and is very reputable among his colleagues. However, his lectures are a bit dull and he can end up rambling on about stuff. I found myself bored during many classes because he doesn't engage too well.

both exams are take home, and kind of fun to do, however there is a limit of 750 words which makes it difficult. he is a hard marker, but the class is very interesting and the teacher knows his stuff. reading the material is a must.

Knowledgeable professor but very unclear as to what he expects in the midterm and final papers. Very loaded questions with 750 word max and a very hard grader. Do not expect an easy A. Still a very kind and caring professor, who will take time to meet and talk to you. Asks and listens to feedback!

I try to keep an open mind about professors but I can't with this one. He spends the majority of the lectures talking about his life and what he's done. Never on topic. The textbook is your saviour because you wont learn a thing from him. He's a great man and very intelligent and cares about what he's saying but he doesnt get it across well.
