Comment:

Before he retired, was easily the best teacher in the theory department despite being perpetually at war with everyone else there. If you're a good student, be perpared for one of UNCG's best; if not, heaven help you. Frank is merciless and at best a benevolent tyrant, and his assignments are HARD. Weeding down his class numbers by starting everyone off analysing Wagner is only the beginning. All I can say is, be prepared.

One of the best learning experiences I have ever had in music. He knows so much and will kick your butt so that you learn it. I started out slack, but quickly learned to love the class.

Dr. McCarty is the best theory teacher in the SoM. Beware not doing your work - because he will kick you out. Btw, Modal Counterpoint is his favorite class, and he's almost cheerful in it.
