Tom Franks is an extraordinarily unique and thought-provoking professor, passionate and wildly entertaining. He often teaches by delivering spontaneous monologues that contain enough humor and creativity to command attention for hours. He's a professor who changed my perspectives on philosophy, life, and teaching. He is one of EMU's few gems!

Franks was the best professor I had at EMU. He was an amazing and entertaining lecturer and he was more than fair with grading, always offering lots of extra credit and offering private help during office hours. Some of the material was challenging, but that's a good thing and more than I can say for the rest of my EMU experience.

Took this online. He's very clear and has a good sense of humor. He's also retiring next semester which I think is going to be a huge loss to EMU. Highly recommend him!

I liked this class, not a lot of people did, but I would blame that more on the concept than the Professor. He was clear and concise, I learned what I was supposed to, and had no problem with his tests. Go to class and do the work and you will do just fine in his class.

I thought that Franks was an amazing teacher, a lot of people just aren't cultured enough to appreciate him. As for the class, read the book, and go to lecture to get an understanding of what you read. Study before tests and you'll be fine, he's a fair guy.

Franks is the worst professor I have ever had. He doesnt know how to return emails, he cancles class alot, he doesnt show up for his office hours, he is always late to class, and his voice annoys me. If you can get around it, don't take his class... EVER

The way he talks is very loud, odd and like nobody I have heard before. I know he cant help it but its ridiculous. It annoys me and I know Im not the only one who thinks so. It is very hard to pay attention when I don't want to listen to him. I hate this class.

Horoable online teacher he dosent answer your emails and the class is hard. I dont think he knows the difference between a 100 class and 300 because that is where this class is should be.

The concepts are hard to understand, but he does a wonderful job explaining! His examples were very clear and helpful. Study w/ the CD-rom and the tests won't be a problem! I'd definitely take another one of his classes- great sense of humor.

philosophy was very hard for me to understand but he was very helpful and he explained things well, his tests came from what he explained and he also gave an extra credit paper worth up to 20 points so that was helpful

I think Franks is great, the best continental thinker at EMU. Good sense of humor, particularly in existentialism. :)

I heard that in class is hard, but i took it on-line, and as long as you do the discussions and read, its so easy. Plus, He's a great prof. willing to admit to grading errors and more than willing to help those in need. take his class!!!!

Brilliant man. He shines a funny light on the darker side of things.hardest part is dealing with unpleasant material - but thats life. He gets it - to those of you who know what I mean - in the eyes.

tough class, ok teacher. The course demands much time and effort to study, and read material. Read the book and do the exercises on the CD-ROM. tests are not extrememly difficult if you understand the material. he gives extra credit.
