For a first class in econ, pretty easy. He makes it boring but if you listen and read, you pass.

Be fair to the professor. You have to work hard to get a good grade. He is good and kind teacher. Ask questions in class or after class, he is very helpful. Students learn a lot in his class.

Foldvary is the worst teacher I have ever had. He taught only his opinions. His tests were worded badly. The answer was the "most right" answer when he wrote the test, even though he would teach each of the answers in his lecture.DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Youll do poorly even if you are great at econ. This was a waste of time.

I loved that there was limited testing pressure. There are a few problem sets, 3 midterms, and a final. I had a 99% going into the final and that allowed me to learn a lot in the class. Too much testing pressure prevents me from learning the material. The lectures are NOT always super fun but the class was great! I learned a lot about real estate.

He is very unclear and unforgiving on tests. His test questions are complicated, vague, and always multiple choice so there is no way of writing for partial credit. No personal skills... very hard to talk to.

not a great class but not a terrible one either. hes a smart and a nice man but not a good lecturer. i would think that i understand concepts and then he would lecture on them and i would end up confused. open note tests dont seem to help much. aplia is really annoying, but he uses a lot of other assignments for grade boosting

Don't take Foldvary for econ1. He is a bad lecturer and his class is super boring. Tests are open note but tough because he is so poor at lecturing. Read the textbook and his notes.

He's alrightt.. boring.. his tests are hard even though theyre open note open book. Doesn't really teach the right things. pretty much talks about his opinions and his colleagues' opinions. I didn't enjoy his class. Probably won't take him ever again.

After readin his reviews on rate my professor, I was really bummed I was stuck with him. But after having him for a quarter, I really like him. He knows his stuff, makes an attempt to engage students with stories and different media and is actually a really cool guy. Although I didn't like the mini papers and mini oral, it was effective.

Avoid Foldvary. Interesting, but he is not a good teacher. The guy knows Econ, but couldn't teach it for his life. The tests may be open book/note, but very hard, the questions are worded very oddly. You have Aplia sets throughout, 3 exams, 3 quizzes, 4 or 5 short papers (1 pg) and a final. Do not take him if you can avoid him

Lectures can get boring, but the professor knows what his stuff. His exams are difficult, but he provides useful study guides and the exams are all open note! Attendance isn't mandatory, but I highly suggest you should since most of exam material is based off of lectures. He also gives several extra credit options. Overall, a great teacher.

He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his subject. If you attend class and take good notes he'll tell you everything you need to know. Hardly any homework. Some of the test questions can be a little confusing but I would definitely recommend him and take him again.

Overall good teacher, knows what he's talking about and will help you if you ask. Lectures are a bit dry but not bad. Every class is recorded though, which helps a lot. Also, he complained about a red stapler...i think

He should just give everyone tote bags of extra credit as you walk through the door first day of class (take EVERY opportunity). Terribly boring lectures, you will want your lap top.He provides lecture notes on his site.Gives MC test questions out prior to exam. Everything is open note! In general his test questions were awkwardly phrased/confsuing

Included all of the basics of Public Finance but he definitely added his own spin. Class was graded far too easy but I've never enjoyed a class so much. Class was all discussion which is good at the MA level. He's well read and left students with a valuable set of lessons (note: SJSU class).
