You don't have to go to class but he has 3 point assignments every day that if you miss you won't get the points and they add up. You have about 15 minutes of homework before every class period, but it's pretty easy. Tests are super easy in the class.

Very passionate about the subject and takes time to make sure you understand the material. Daily homework but it's pretty easy. Sets up a routine so every class is the same and you know what to expect. Good and easy class to take for a science credit.

Beware: LEARNSMART. However it is better than the alternative to paper homework. No multiple choice tests. The online quizzes are really hard. Exams are super easy though, just two concept sketches that are determined by a deck of cards (that part is very nerve wracking). Overall pretty easy class.

This guy is awesome! Labs are almost always outside and we took a trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes! You learn so much and have a great time doing it. He's always willing to work with you if there's an issue, very helpful. I was considering taking this class at a community college to save money but honestly glad I took it at Ferris w/ Heck, he's amazing!

One of my favorite professors I have had at Ferris. Makes the class interesting and is very helpful when you have questions. The class was pretty easy but still learned a lot. Labs are pretty fun and don't always take the whole time.

Cool professor to take for a gen-ed class. Has a unique method of setting up exams, but it was really pretty simple to buckle down. About 45 minutes of studying almost guaranteed an A on the exam. Homework was tedious sometimes but buffed the grade a bit so it was worth it. Good class, funny prof.

Fred is an amazing professor! He doesn't lecture, but uses videos, concept sketches, and group activities to reinforce the info. Homework and quizzes were on connect and all very easy. Midterm and final are concept sketches and labs were very interesting. Fred really knows how to engage his students. He is also very lenient about late work.

Professor Heck is my favorite teacher this semester. He is an amazing teacher and knows how to do his job. He connects really well with his students and wants you to learn. Boring subject but he makes it more interesting. Exams are on sketches which are a lot easier if you are a visual learner.

I really enjoyed his class and would take him again in the future. He knew everyone's name in the 100+ student class within a week or two. Lots of group work and homework everyday. His tests are completely based off of homework questions which makes it easy to know what to study.

A truly terrible professor. Doesn't captivate with his lectures. Horribly boring, damn near impossible to focus. This University needs to do away with professors as low quality as this.

Very easy going. Everyday you work in teams. Homework everyday but it is really easy. Tests are easy if you go over your worksheets the night before. Professor Heck takes the time to get to know everyone individually.

He is a good guy,and he knows the topic very well. BUT the class is like watching paint dry and that is an understatement. As far as the class goes it is not that hard but its hard to get into it.

He is very knowledgable in the subject of geology and earth's history. Reminds me of David Letterman. He greets every person/group before class generally. He can be a bit awkward at times but is generally a solid guy.

Amazing professor. Truly knows what he is talking about and actually cares about his students. I took both of his geology classes for science credit and really enjoyed both of them. His use of groups and lots of hands on material really sets him apart from other professors.
