I am lucky to have been able to take his classes. They were hard but out of all the courses I have taken at Northwest they were the ones I learned the most from. Talk to him outside of class and pick his brain. It'll make it easier to find out just what he wants.

Fred is fantastic at lecturing. If you put in the work, you will get SO much out of this class or ANY Fred class, for that matter. Don't think you can just show up and pass. It is a living hell but worth every second of it. Some people think he's rude, don't believe that for a second. He will work every bit as hard as you do to help you succeed.

Basically if you don't work for the A you won't get the A. He's pretty complex so sometimes paying attention is mandatory. He has a lot of good insight on life and also the class topics. Not really the friendliest person, but if you get over the intimidation factor you'll be fine. If you're not truly interested in the topic don't take his classes.

Very challenging class, but I learned a great deal about law as it relates to media. Fred is a bit arrogant, and is also your garden variety, college professor political leftist/marxist that is so common it is cliche these days. However, he is also a brilliant and fantastic professor you will learn a great deal from if you put in the legwork.

Fred is so intelligent it's crazy! He knows something about everything.. Comm Law is hard - don't go in expecting it to be anything else. Take lots of notes and study well ahead of time. He has study guides for every exam, you just have to ask for them (he will never announce they exist). Will help you if you need it. Tough but very nice guy!

This class was pretty tough. Requires lots of notes, has numerous papers, and the tests are no cake walk either. However, it is not the nightmare people make it out to be. Lamer is a great teacher and will take the time to help you if you ask though. He is so left politically he makes Stalin look tame, but he is still knowledgeable and helpful.

Great teacher! I love movies, so this class was perfect for me! 4 papers required over the movies, and 1 extra credit paper is optional, but all are really easy (he is not a hard grader). However, it is imperative that you attend class, otherwise you will miss the movies and lecture, and questions from both + reading from the book are on the tests.

Intelligent teacher. Write down things word for word. Be prepared to make 50+ notecards per test. Still an awesome class. Not as bad as everyone claims.

He is very hard to understand. I lost all respect for him after he said 'would of' and 'a obedience.' He expects you to not make any mistakes in your writings, but he makes his own mistakes, everybody does.

Lamer is the only instructor I experienced at NW that I would describe as being pretentious, condescending or smug; However, after reading favorable comments on this site, perhaps he just rubbed me the wrong way. Even with this in mind, while this particular class is by no means difficult, I cannot in good conscience recommend it.

I had Fred this semester for Ethnographic film study and I really enjoyed his lectures and the class in general. This is probably the easiest class you are going to get to fulfill the human diversity credit. He is knowledgeable but wont baby you through papers. I have heard he is much more difficult in other classes.

Great Teacher. Lot of information & lot of hard work. He is very fair and will put into it as much as you are willing to put into it. Those that have problems with are obviously students who were not up to the challenge and what a class you can coast through. THERE IS NO COASTING IN A LAMER CLASS. You'll put in the work or you won't make the grade.

Theories of Mass Communication is the hardest class in the department, but it's also the most interesting, if you give it your best. Fred challenges you to think harder than you've ever had to before, but he will also help you if you're truly struggling. You MUST attend every class; his lectures are complex and can be interpreted very differently.

I can't stand going to this guys classes. He's knowledgable to a certain point, but he talks about stuff that has nothing to do with class. Everyone says he SO smart when really he's just been teaching the same**** forever. His ego is roughly the size of battle ship, and is accompanied by a smuggness that could make me puke. below avg teacher.

One of the most difficult, but interesting, classes I've taken. What makes this class so challenging is that there is so much information to memorize for tests. You literally go through over 100 court cases, and most of them appear on the tests. But go to class every day with open ears, take good notes, and take advantage of paper rewrites!
