If it weren't for the TA's, this class would have been completely useless. As it is the lectures were a waste of time - if you don't have to take this class, don't bother.

Comment:
Horrible professor. Aside from teaching basically nothing about photography he would go off on tangents and then start discussing something that didn't connect with anything else he had previously said. His sentences actually did not connect nor did his ideas. His own TAs were openly disagreeing with him in class.

I will not take another class from this man. This was supposed to be an intro to photography class - if I didn't already know my way around a camera, I would have been completely lost. He might have strong opinions on social issues but he isn't a very good photographer, technically speaking, and he can't teach even the basics.

Comment:
Does not teach what's in the course description. He doesn't even seem to care much at all for photography technique -- just social issues. He doesn't even care how photography technique relates to social issues -- he assumes "it's obvious." Pretty useless as a photography instructor.

Prof. Lonider does not teach. I was excited to learn about basic photography from this course, yet I haven't even learned that much. He lectures more about sociology than he does about photography, and he is even worse at that than he is at taking pictures. In fact he just said, "I don't know how to teach lighting and composition." Do not take him.

I have not learned anything from his lectures which are random and politically focused. May as well have bought a book and taught myself. I would only take this course if it were a requirement (Vis Media). Very expensive materials, not worth the time or $$.

I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with everybody... I find Fred's teaching very interesting... I actually pay attention and take notes, and I've learned a lot.... When it comes to Photoshop, he teaches the basics, but you really need to dive into the book if you want to be an expert... Anyway, as a science major, this class is very refreshing :)

totally open ended class. no due dates, no specific assignements. this professor is a very smart guy who expects his students to make art because they care about it, not so that they can achieve a certain GPA. I can't imagine doing badly in this class, but there were quite a few students with attrocious and awfully boring work.

Worst professor I have ever had. I am a die hard liberal and he makes me want to vote Republican and go out and bust unions. Totally out of touch and just an awful teacher. Didn't learn a single thing about photography from this class. His "lectures" are also mysoginistic and hopelessly outdated - consider yourself warned!

Nice professor. Boring but he could be very helpful if you ask questions. I think he did a nice job introducing photography from different aspects, though he did spend way too many time discussing social, political, union worker issues over in Tijuanna. The TAs make up all the great experiences. This is really the only class I enjoy this quarter.

bad teacher who is teaching the wrong subject. about 20% of the class was about anything relevant to shooting photos and doing photography. He also sends a lot of junk mail. He's nice but he doesn't do his job right. He also gave us two 6 print photo assignments. I would consider that far too much for a beginning photo class. He didn't
