nice man but it was very easy to fall asleep during his lectures. spoke in a monotone voice and his exams were half multiple choice and half open ended. Although open notes were allowed for some time on every exam, they were very hard for no reason especially for an intro to bio class. If you have him try to switch but its not the end of the world

Hes very passionate about bio. His PowerPoints and worksheets are primarily what tests are based on, so reviewing those is very helpful. Ive managed to do well (A) while only using the textbook when instructed to do so (about 3-4 times). I would definitely take one of his classes in the future. Also he brings his dog sometimes.

He's nice but the most boring, monotoned professor I have. Half the class is trying to keep their eyes open and the other half just gives up and puts their heads down.

Professor Laverty is a nice man and certainly very intelligent. However, the way he "teaches" lectures leaves students confused and left having to teach ourselves the material needed to know. He gets off track a lot and I feel like I barely learn anything in his lectures because I'm busy trying not to fall asleep. Good luck if you get him.

Dr. Laverty is a very nice man, but he takes a bit to get used to. He goes through his lectures very slow and can seem to get off track quite often, but in reality he's not. His exams have odd material on them and are weird getting used to, but he's a fair grader. He is a decent professor, not great, but not terrible.

Comment:
Dr. Laverty was ok. He gives all multiple choice tests, which weren't easy, but it's a 300-level Bio class. Reading the book helped a lot, but going to class was important too. He is kind of distant, but can also be funny. I kind of wish I had taken Gallileo, but it's not the end of the world. Also, I think he curved at the end, but it was minor.

Hes a really great guy, sometimes his lectures are very boring. The first exam I studied hard with the textbook, did awful, second time, I just took everything off his slides and lectures. Did great! Go to class every class. He gives extra credit and does curve.

Definitely a boring lecturer but if you read before class you'll be more into lecture and understand the point of his rambling. Gives an outline of what will be on the exam with clear expectations of what you should know. Makes it so you only have to understand the big pictures and real world applications. If you make a true effort, you will pass.

General physiology is inherently a tough subject. Use his notes as a guide but make sure you read and outline the book. I used a highlighter personally just for time's sake but the studying is just like any other biology course. He has some lectures that are important to go to bc of clickers but I usually just go to all of them. Good luck!

Laverty's exams are so much easier as compared to Olabisi and Raden. His exams are straight off of his review sheets. If you read his review sheet, the case studies, and simbio you will be fine. Lectures are long but what Bio class isn't? He brings his dog to class! His review classes could also be helpful if you ask the right questions!

Dr. Laverty is obviously very passionate about what he's teaching. He's a great person, but as someone with no biology background, this class was HARD. His exams were confusing and his lectures weren't very engaging. I had a decent grade in the class until the final, which killed my grade. Some people love him and others don't. It just depends.

One of the hardest classes I have ever taken The material is extremely intricate and he just stands in front of a figure from the text and describes it Once you leave class you go to the textbook to find a ridiculous amount of extra info I've never studied so hard for a class and got my first C in my entire academic career

Dr. laverty is very passionate about what he preaches. The material is very interesting, but the exams are hard and challenging. The book is super ultra important to get an A in this class even if you pay attention to every lecture you'll miss details. Read the book more than once. Average total grade was about 75 and he curved.

Don't take this if you don't have to! Don't be afraid to reach out to him - great at responding to emails. Go to review sessions!!! Always bring your clicker in case of pop quizzes (but they're usually just for attendance so don't stress). Good luck!

Had to take this class for being a Biology Major (if you don't need it for your major - don't take this). He's such a nugget and likes when you participate in class. Don't be afraid to email him - he's great about responding and is willing to help. Lectures can be confusing but definitely go to review sessions!!

He is extremely annoying in his lecture style in that he will just put up a figure from the book on the projector and ramble for periods of 15 minutes per figure. It is very hard to stay attentive for the entirety of the lecture. I have to read the book to make sure I know whats going on when though I don't miss lecture.

Find old exams if you can, he reuses every single question! If you can't find old exams, then you better get use to reading the book cover to cover. Go to his office hours for questions and take good notes during his lectures because all his powerpoint slides are just figures from the book. I thought it was a very interesting class and enjoyed it

Gives some of the most boring lectures I've ever attended. Basically need an IV of caffeine to stay awake and pay attention to Laverty. Class isn't terribly difficult, but you definitely need to put in effort, pay attention in lecture, and teach yourself many of the main concepts from the textbook. Material is interesting, Laverty is not.

He is the hardest professor i've ever had. All his lectures consist of is the powerpoint and him speaking. You have to read and memorize the textbook. The exams are impossible and only 2 exams and the final. Must study weeks ahead of time and memorize the powerpoint and figures in the textbook. He is never at his office hours.
