didnt go to lecture once - got an A. Easy teacher, class could easily be hard af considering you learn quantum mechanics but really doesn't challenge you at all. if you don't care about physics, take steigman.

Steigman derives stuff in class so that you can understand it. He goes over basic examples in class, so you won't learn how to do the hard problems. His exams and quizzes are extremely easy if you know how to do the homework. His exams are very similar to the practice exams, so put them on your cheat sheet and you'll be golden!

Drink some coffee before lecture and make sure to jot notes on the conditions of what he says, because he used different notations than the book. Examples in class usually from the book, but can be confusing when he explains it, so I'd say read how the book explains it first before class. Straightforward show-work quizzes & tests.

I sat in the front row every lecture 6 feet from him and still always fell asleep. Lectures are very boring and repetitive but he gets the point across. Class is generally very easy but he throws a few curveballs on the midterms and a lot on the final.

Comment:
Lectures started off confusing as he bounced around and derived equations without exactly explaining where they came from. Lectures eventually got better to complete understanding by the end of quarter. Midterms are a rehash of the quizzes and sample test. Does include material you may have just learned before exam. Reading the book is required.

His lectures aren't all that useful, he spends lots of time on one example and you get behind in the material. To do homework/quizzes it's just as easy to read the section of the textbook.

he doesn't use the mic but which sucks because the lecture hall in Smith is huge. he explains everything well and is redundant which is good because some of the ideas are complicated but it does get very boring. quizes are cake and the midterms and final are just like the practice exams.

Steigman is a good teacher. Lecture is not required but it's nice to go every now and then. Quizzes aren't bad and the midterms are easy. Just make a good cheat sheet with every formula he gives in class and the ones in the book. The exams are exactly like the practice exams.

Pretty boring lecturer, but if you attend class you'll have a general idea of what's on the quiz. Also, his exams do reflect on the practice exams he provides you, so be sure to take advantage of those. He's rather straightforward, so don't ask questions you can figure out for yourself. He'll outright refuese to answer them in lecture.

doesn't know how to lecture... get barrett in recitation or read the book; only reason he gets good ratings is because his midterms are what is on the practice midterms. don't expect to learn a thing in this class

Boring lectures, but it's better than reading the book. You can write ANYTHING on your one page "cheat sheet," including sample test questions and answers, which happen to be very similar to the test problems themselves (usually just changed numbers).

This class was an interesting, in that the book for the course and the formulas and equations used in it were almost completely different. Going to lecture, then reading the book was very confusing. In my opinion choose one or the other (I preferred the book). Quizzes were generally difficult, but exams were not so bad if you use practice exams.

Very helpful in office hours. Really cares about teaching and making sure you understand the information. Pressure's taken off by allowing a 1 page cheat sheet on the exams, which are nearly identical to the practices. Good class.

He could be a little boring at times, but his equations and examples were very helpful. The quizes were similar to the examples from class and the homework. The midterms and final were very similar to the sample tests posted online. You were also allowed a one page cheat sheet for the exams.

This guy is boring. I found it impossible to stay awake in lecture, making going to lecture a complete waste of time. Tests are just like practice therefore all tests/quizzes are very easy. Recitation was far more helpful than lecture.

Over all a very boring class. He took interesting information and made it so boring. You will find it hard to stay awake with useless deminstrations. His exams are strait forward, but the final you get little help.

really boring lecturer...clear lectures, but u will have to mix and match a few of the million formulas he comes up w/ on quizzes and exams to do well on the problems, which can make it hard...miss part A and u'll get burned by either B C or D (if not all of them)...practice exams are very helpful

Steigman is a boring lecturer. However, you should still go to the lectures since he simplifies things. Found the quizzes and midterms extremely easy, assuming you do the homework. The two midterms are nearly identical in form to the practice tests on the course website.

Man, I wish I went to lecture more often for this class, and I would have if Dr. Steigman weren't so BOOOOORING! I'm sure he means well and knows the material, but I'd rather watch paint dry than attend a physics lecture with him teaching it.
