After being told by the geography dept. head at the time that I would never get in to grad school, Dr. Lovell became one of my champions by a)fully supporting my desire to get a Master's degree b) writing what I assume was a fantastic letter of recommendation as I got into my program of choice at LSE and later went onto work at the UNDP and IFC.

There were only 3 assignments in this class, making it very hard to get a good mark. Lovell did not really teach any content, he just got guest lecturers to come in or put a documentary on. Upon completing this class, I am still not sure what I was supposed to get out of this course.

Lovell is a really sweet person and is quite entertaining. He is always willing to chat with students outside of class and offer help, as he cares about his students. That being said, he is not the best lecturer (all we did was watch movies and have guest lectures). I barely went to class and still did ok. I would not recommend taking this course.

Definitely better person than lecturer. A little scattered but is very willing to clear up if you ask, as well as his PhD student was very helpful to clear up. Easy course if you more a less just do a few of the readings here and there.

Please don't take this class. A terrible lecturer, never really knew what was going on in the class and I attended every class. Most of the lectures were either movies or guest lecturers. He is funny, but if you actually want to learn something. Don't take this class.

George is a great guy but very weak lecturer. He loves his subject but has trouble keeping the students attention. His heart belongs to Guatemala but glad he teaches at Queen's.

He is passionate and kind Prof. But TOTALLY unclear. He doesn't use moodle, so nothing is posted. You can go to the library and take out his slides, but there's hardly anything on them...So you pretty much have to go to class. But all we did was watch documentaries and he rambled on. Little content in class, but he finds random stuff for the exam.

he was a great prof, really passionate and funny, and totally inspired me to be interested in the topics. what he chose to teach and the material he chose to cover were great, and the book we read changed the way i view the world. i always left this class thinking and it is still one of the best classes i have taken at queen's

Very funny and interesting...when he decided to lecture. it was a three hour course once a week and we watched a two hour movie rather than listen to him EVERY week. I'm all for easy, so I'll take more of his courses, but what is Queen's paying this man for?
