He is a very kind and caring man. His class was challenging in the sense that this was the first phil. class I have ever taken, so grasping some material was hard. He tends to skip around. He does not grade the papers/tests, the TA does, who was excruciatingly tough. Other than that, I would suggest going to class and doing the readings, it helps.

He is a great person, who lives quite a hard life. He has a great passion for philosophy. I would say that if you have to take him, try and do your best. I know for sure that the class is difficult at first, but you will become a better thinker, after getting a hang of how his teaching style. He is a really good choice for those who are wanting to

He's not a bad person (he means well and tries to help his students) but he's not a good professor. He is usually late (he was 15 min late to the first TEST) and he does not use visual aides but rather just stands on his soap box and talks until he realizes he is out of time. "Bio and Mind" is actually "Perceiving as Predictive Hypothesizing."

He is a very nice and understanding professor, but his teaching style is not very effective. He lectures the entire class. Do take the opportunity to participate and talk to him and he will love you, but I don't recommend his class. If you hate writing, he only gives 2 exams, made up of essays that he gives you prompts to a week in advance.

Genuinely kind; wants you to succeed. Presumes class knows more than they do. Jumps from topic to topic. You must do the reading otherwise you will be lost, so the book is definitely needed. Lectures get boring quick. Has no plan. Says attendance is mandatory, but doesn't take attendance. When asking a question he'll give you a roundabout answer.

Start reading early so you know what he's talking about. Really smart, but lectures the entire class so it tends to get boring, though he has a sense of humor. Will love you forever if you participate. Bad habit of tardiness and very flaky with actual work/assignments. Astonishingly nice man and willing to help, but you'll have to make the effort.

He will be one of the nicest professors you will have at SLU. He's usually a little late, class can be boring because he lectures the entire time, but the exams are doable since they are just essays and you get the prompts ahead of time. Very helpful outside of class hours.

Absolutely brilliant. Extremely helpful and nice. His lectures are very interesting, but I can see many people losing attention, but he makes you think if you pay attention. My favorite class. I've learned so much. He is an intelligent, analytical man, his mind is always thinking and this is easy to see when he teaches. But he might be late...

He's brilliant. Take good notes. See him during office hours for him to know who you are. Ask a lot of questions and you'll be his favorite. He gives you the essay questions for the exam a week in advance. Write them using the text, lecture notes, and additional research and you'll do great when he grades your essay exam. Read the text.

This is probably one of the worst intro philosophy classes I could have taken. He is a sweet man willing to go out of his way to help you, but his lectures are very scattered and unorganized. He arrives at least 10 minutes late every class and is a tough grader on essays. The material is challenging - if you don't love philosophy avoid this class!

He is a great professor: clear, engaging, organized, and interested in students. This guy knows the material so well that he can speak in well formed paragraphs. I was extremely impressed with him. I learned a whole lot from and found him to be a real model of philosophical inquiry. He really helped me improve as a student and a writer.

Lectures are very unorganized, and he makes the material even more boring than it is. There are only two tests and a final; each consists of 3-4 essays. We also had to write an 5 page paper. No matter how much info you include, he WILL take off points for something! He's always late! He is very helpful outside of class, though.

Horrible teacher! Always arrives late to class. Is very unorganized-writes notes all over his hands. Any other philosophy professor is better than him. If he doesn't want you to, YOU WON'T GET AN "A" -NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY! Take any other professor.
