I found him to be extremely helpful with any questions you had about the material. Held a genuine interest in students, and was very approachable. Probably one of my favourite profs.

I liked his classes! He cared enough to get to know his students names and tried to hold your attention for the entire class. Canadian History can be fairly boring and he tried to make it as interesting as possible by playing short videos every class. Really approachable, easy to talk to and easy to ask for help.

Gerald Friesen is one of the most forefront professor on Western Canadian History. He's taught me twice, extremely helpful in all parts of his class. You are expected to show up, and listen. He'll help you with your essay, and give great feedback. Don't miss out on his classes before he retires.

Lectures were boring and dry. He hardly gave any advice when it came to essay topics. When it came to the final exam, nothing he went over in class was even on the exam or was barely touched on although the exam itself was easy and he gives you a guide before hand. Sadly I've learned more from the book assigned then from him.

he was a completely useless, im a history major took this class as a GPA booster, he ripped apart my essays, was not the least bit helpful when i went to him for advice to try and determine what he wanted for my second essay.

Acts completely disinterested, bored, and clearly is waiting for his pension bump. Embarrassing how he conducts his class and the marking system is completely bizarre. Education student with strong history of essay writing and barely passed the essay portion. DROP THE COURSE IF YOU CAN!!

He's very nice! I'm an A student though and he still ripped apart my papers, though. However, I did learn a lot about writing so it was worth it! He's always willing to help if you stop by his office. The U of M is lucky to have him!

He was one of the best prof's I've ever had hands down. His marking system is a lttle strange but it is fair. He takes the time to get to know who you are and that made it very easy to talk to him. I would deffinitely take another class with him.

Awesome prof!!! Knew every students name. Essays are not hard and topics are given, will help out immensly with sources. Class participation is a must as is attendance at discussions for a good grade on tests and exams. Canadian history IS oftentimes boring and there's nothing he can do about that; he does try to skim very quickly over boring parts

I had this prof a couple years ago, and to this day I still know him to be my greatest prof. Very very easy to understand, and by midterm, he knew everyone by name! He makes the class involvement high, so don't think of skipping out on this class. He's a tough marker.. What was an A in highschool is easily a C in this guy's class.

I liked this course and this prof a lot. I found the lectures to be interesting, and Friesen did a good job of injecting humour into his class. I also got the impression that he genuinely cared about the student in the class. There is no question that Friesen made me more interested in Canadian history.

doesn't make any sense. goes off topic and starts talking about totally unrelated topics, (although this is the only thing that makes the class interesting). His marking scheme makes no sense.
